Yep it is a dump and we propagate it. All of us.

*With every RSS feed that is distributed with hopes of driving traffic,
*Tagging our images so they can be found,
*Supporting and participating in file sharing networks,
*Bookmarking our articles to outside sites like Digg, Stumble, Mixx, Fark, Etc, so that our content now becomes their content
    ...and many other ways.

The bottom line is, we want people to see our content so we make it readily available in every way, shape and form for anyone who wants it to find it, and use it in hopes of getting a link/traffic.

We can't have it both ways. There is no way to fully protect your stuff on the Wild Wild Web.
All those who believe that the web should be free for all...you got it..it is a free for all.

If you don't want your stuff used...don't put it online for all the world to see for free. There are too many people that do not respect others out there, and will steal from their Grandmother, as long as they can do it anonymously with the hopes of possibly making $1 or two.

You can bet your bottom dollar, if you have ever pirated a song, or software...someone is going to pirate your content or images...call it Digital Karma, and you deserve it.

One of the most ridiculous things I have ever seen is seeing a website review of a illegal content site (music, movies, etc), yet the webmaster was highly protective of the script that he used to make it, and would not share it. The web is full of hypocrites. So many feel they have a right to bootleg, or steal something that they don't want to pay for, but are offended when someone scrapes their content, or copies their design.

I'm not saying is right, but lack of ethics is a constant in society, and it didn't stop just because the web came along. Since the beginning of time, people have always looked for a way to make money off of others hard work, instead of doing the work, or spending their own money.

It's a selfish "I got mine" society and the web is just one big recycle bin.

    very true !

see this plan for a typical blog :

    - CMS : free
    - addons : free
    - template : free or found on bittorrent or rapidshare
    - photos : stolen from google images or flickr
    - articles : stolen from article directories, often removing the backlink and the author's name as well

you see ... it's an easy life for leechers nowadays...

however, at least for photos if you make a watermark big and nasty enough i can guarantee nobody will steal your pics even if i had some cases with spam blogs, probably automated stuff i guess.
