    It depends...
Hire a writer, he will know.

If it is a continuous narrative, then yes you should have transition between paragraphs.

If you are merely listing features or ideas than a continuation is not necessary.

Re-read whatever you write top to bottom and see if it would make sense if you were someone else reading it.

I don't know exactly what you mean by "linkage", but two consecutive paragraphs in a written piece should always be related in some way or another.

Paragraphs can be related in various ways:
    1. One paragraph can elaborate on a point just touched upon in the one before it. For example, one paragraph dealing with how to teach children English may end with the line "Tools such as phonics have made spelling much easier for children". The paragraph after that one can be about phonics.
    2. Paragraphs may function as items on a list, somewhat like large bullet points. E.g. If one paragraph ends with "Many tools have been invented in the past decade to make learning fun for children", the next few paragraphs can talk about phonics, interactive videos, and learning games.
    3. One paragraph may show the opposite point of view from the previous one. E.g. a paragraph talking about the merits of homeschooling may be followed by another paragraph on the merits of classroom coaching.

This is all I could come up with in five minutes, I'm sure other members will add more.

Two paragraphs do not have to contain similar words or phrases to be "linked". Just make sure that there is some sort of a logic that connects every paragraph in an article.

    Hope that helps!

Just as there ways to bind your sentences together in a paragraph you can maintain flow between paragraphs by similar methods.

One method is to used a repeated word as Suki mentions. Or use a repeated word or phrase in the form of a question.

You can ask a question at the end of one paragraph and answer it at the beginning of the next paragraph.

To learn more about linking paragraphs to improve the flow of your writing I suggest finding books written by Bruce Ross-Larsen. He has a entire book on the subject of paragraphs called Powerful Paragraphs. He also has books on sentences, reports and writing for the information age. I bought all of them.

These books have helped me improve the clarity and readability of my writing.

    Hope this helps.
