If you have access to Vbulletin members area then you need your license info to login and download files, if you got files from anywhere other then VBULLETIN.COM and you use them without a licence expect your site to be took down and possible worse.

Obviously you need a license to use it legitimately.

If you don't have access to the members area, you probably got it illegally :) vBulletin is NOT free, if that's what you think :p

Leased license - $85.00 per year

Owned license - $160.00 one time

I've been able to easily recoop the costs of the conversion from phpBB to vBulletin. My users are more active now, and I'm able to more easily give them what they want. I have many phpBB boards too, but I plan to migrate the busiest ones to vBulletin.

If your community is still small, I think it would be best to start with phpbb. After some growth, convert to vBulleting. I found the conversion process very easy.
