Is it neccessary to own more than one PC

Suppose, a person has already a Desktop PC with him. Now is it neccessary to own a laptop or several PC's at home for him or her to use. Does it makes sence to own multiple computers just for himself?.

I dont think so It make sense, you should have one pc for home use and laptop for outdoor use,

BTW: why you want to know this?

I don't think it is really important to have multiple PCs. A Desktop and a Laptop are enough IMO. And if you can get a Pocket PC that is OK too.

    I don't think it's neccessary.

I don't bother taking my laptop with me anymore when I travel (unless I'm going somewhere really remote)... I just take PortableApps on a USB stick.

Absolutely! I threw away my Vic-20 and Mac SE when I was younger. I soooo wish I had have kept them. Still got my 1040STe though :)

My dad has several (about 3 in his computer room, plus 2 laptops, plus various bits and pieces and part built ones) but I have no idea why! I think he just likes to buy things. :) Keep up to date.

We have 2, but there are 4 of us wanting to use them... 3 on a fairly consistent basis... so we could sure do with another one here. :)

one desktop and one laptop is more than enough for me as a webmaster.
2 big lcd monitors would be fine for graphic artist. depends where your going to use it.

I have about six computers. They all serve different purposes so I guess it can be necessary to have more than one.

C'mon lets hear them then :)

I honestly would like to know some good reasons for me to "keep on keeping" my old computers.

    Spare parts, a backup.

I got a spare PC that I keep unplugged. So if this PC gets fried I can just plug in my other one.

I have 1 PC and 1 laptop in use. I just use the laptop and my wife uses the PC if needed. I do have 2 more computers in the house but they are not plugged in. If one breaks then I just switch in another. Its also handy for spare parts should a graphics card go or hard drive. It saves the hastle of going out and buying.

I personally dont have a need to run several computers at home, but if I had a large family then I might consider it if they were needed for school work.

If someone has a bunch of PC's to use on their own then they would more then likely be doing different things like testing web server environments, email servers and database servers etc..

I've got 6 computers in my bedroom, of which 2 are Database temporary storage servers, 2 are database synchronisers and 2 are crawlers / datamining computers. Further I have 3 laptops. Plus 5 servers + 1 desktop.

Well I think it's always good to have 2 computers, cos what if one stops working? Laptops are good cos you can take them with you when you go somewhere. :)

If you have brothers and sisters / or mom and dad using your PC, then I think you should buy a separate one for yourself. I dont think there is any need to buy multiple PCs for your self use, although I'd love to have a laptop for myself :p but its not extremely necessary.

I would have to agree that most people just need one computer. Especially now that you can run Linux, Windows, OS X in the same machine.
