I used to be impressed when sites reached PR5 (or at least I'd find them interesting). Browsing around on ebay looking for sites for sale, I see quite a few PR5 ones for sale. When you check yahoo for backlinks, they have like 20 or 30. That's not a lot of backlinks. The value of a PR5 site seems to be rather low anymore, as it seems to take very few links to get there. Getting to PR6 is a whole other matter, entirely. Sometimes I wish google would update the PR calculations on the toolbar to reflect reality a little more. Wayyyy too many sites are PR5, not enough are PR1-4. I know PR is a tad out of date, but it still gives an immediate impression on the amount of work done on a given site or page.
I agree with you. I don't think that PR5 sites are very impressive. Some people talk about purchasing these links. I don't believe that it is worth it. A PR6 is definately impressive, but there does seem to be a lot of PR5's dancing around out there. As for the 1-4 sites, I suppose that those who understand the process of increasing PR actively seek backlinks, but this process becomes difficult after a PR4 due to the amount of time/work seeking relavent link exchanges and other higher PR backlinks.
PR sites that have few backlinks showing are probably ones that people did the redirect on to fake the PR.
lol .. ya this is true .. i used to think that way too ... but it's consider quite easy to get a high pr if the owner has other sites of higher pr .. just a link will do
PR 4 is quite easy to achieve from PR 0 with some active linking. There are enough free, non-reciprocal SEO friendly directories around that you can get to PR4 in the next update.
With what Google is doing these days, any and all PR is pretty much null and void. Although, I still lose a lot of sleep over the whole mess
But it's so much entertainment trying to get your PR higher. It's like playing a game with a high score table.
It was recently dropped to number two in the online gaming industry by Texas Hold Em'... we will see how long that lasts...
People talk of "strong" PR6 or "weak" PR7. I thought PR is just PR. How do you know what adjetive to apply to PR? -Akeel.
I'd like to learn more about this redirecting of PR scam. How do you watch for it? How do you know its happening? What should I look for exactly?
this is not a pr scam .. they are not doing cloaking or anything blackhat .. just that they point a strong pr to them .. you can check the BL of the domain to see this .. if it has a good pr but only a few bl .. then the possibility is that he is pointing some good pr site to it
You click a few of the main category links in the side bar or header menu. If those one level down pages too show PR7, means you're dealing with a "strong" PR7. Otherwise, it's a weak PR7. Same goes for PR6s.
spdude, hmm, I thought, in that case, the site was ready or close to being moved up in PR for the main page if one category being linked from the main pages is the same PR. I guess my sites are all "strong PR" then. That sucks, I was hoping for a PR increase soon. Ah well.
i'm a strong PR0 site is new though, and the update should give me a 3 (still low, but better then 0), at least according to the online tools i've seen. honestly, the only reason I care is because of the Co op
