Is it just me, or are movies getting better?

I have been noticing a lot of good movies come out recently, anyone else?

Not only visually, but plots have been getting better as well.

    Any thoughts?

Yeah, well I think it's because of advances in technology allowing directors to do more stuff. They can make pretty much anything look close to real now. It's amazing.

That's funny becuase I've noticed they are running out of idea's and are just comming out with movies that have been made before, but with new people in them.

I agree. A lot of movies, especially scary movies, are taking foreign movies and making it into an American version, which is worse. To me, there's not a lot of good movies out. I think the only movie that I like so far that came out this year was Sweeney Todd.

Everything is the same. Maybe digital effects are changing, but nothing different in scenarios.
Let’s say that one of the best movies Casablanca is released 1942-1943.

yea i agree the ones over the last few months have all been remakes... i am legend was a remake and every one loves it for been original.

The golden composs (ripped from the book Northern Lights and misses half the plot)

then i see the eye has just came out ooo wait another remake.

    300.. yup remake!

to be fair the only movies that are coming out are things like meet the spartans and they just suck so bad in my eyes.

You people take movies way too seriously. So what if they are remakes? Some remakes are just simply better than the original, but I guess it's opinion again.

And to the person above me who can't spell:
The Golden Compass was based on the book Northern Lights, not ripped. A bunch of books are being made into films now, and they have to miss out some of the book as they wouldn't be interesting on screen, but they are in the book, such as lots of talking just explaining the background of the characters, etc. it was a pretty decent film, they didn't miss out that much, apart from the ending, but the ending would suit better as the start of the next book (which is why they are doing it this way).

Films are getting better, the acting (sometimes), visually they are getting much better, more money is being put into them, good ideas are limited and are running out (hence the remakes and converting of comics/books to films). The film industry is booming.

Most of the remakes are better then the originals i think. Again, not only visually (which plays a small part for me), but the acting as well.

Guys I like movies and watch at least 1 film a day if I can find it...Who says that movies are getting better??? It sounds like a drivel...Better? They're becoming lousy and foolish. Even talanted actors sometimes can't guarantee a good movie in the end of picture-taking. I strongly feel that cinema epoch has come to its end after the death of F.Coppola, F.Filnni, Bunuel and other great directors...Don't say stupid things guys...Good movie today is a real treasure along the huge rubbish-bin called TV which stinks of flattering, idleness and violence...

I think these days special effects are getting better in movies, but maybe not the story lines. In my opinion some of the best movies were made in the 80's, like E.T, Back to the Future, Karate Kid, The first lot of Rocky films, just to name a few.

I still think movies in the past have more good stories. Most modern movies are more or less based on plots of old movies but todays special effects are top notch!

I'm in my 30's now, so I find that I'm harder to please when it comes to films. I will say that the special effects are pretty amazing. I think that so much money is being spent on films that studios are scared to gamble on original stuff. That's why you're seeing all these dumb horror remakes these days. I am looking foward to checking out Iron Man though...

I saw some recent movies which are weak in stories, weired in making and not interesting at all. They are seriously running out of ideas.
