Is it Google's penalty or not...?

I just wondering weather it's a google penalty or not...?

Our site was there in the "Google.co.uk" 2nd position for the "shoes" keyword, Now it's on the 990 position here

I am accepting that i had promoted (only directory submission) my site for "shoes" keyword.

Its a kind of google penalty or something else...? What i have to do to bring it back on the same position...?

Thanks for any suggestion and advises in advance...

To my opinion, the best is to wait. I am observing a shuffle for one word terms since about two weeks. Nothing new to me, seems to happen two or three times a year. Until now it was always a question of some weeks, (the longest time I observed was around two months) then everything went back to "normal" (If this expression could be applied to anything related to Google. Seems the only "normal" thing with them is "continues change" ;))

On the other hand, if your site is affected, you need to do some SEO because the change usually reflects a "weak" position for your search term.
Can't make a secure statement but due to my observations with client sites, it seems to be an effect of "good" on page SEO (causing the high ranking with one algo) and a "lack" of strong links. (causing the fall when they tweek) or reverse.

Just post a similar thread and now saw yours:

    http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=595378

Didn't even mention it, but my web is "co.uk" too... To me, it looks like Google doesn't even accept less agressive link building anymore...

I'd wait it out for a while. Have you tried to build quality backlinks?

I'm having the same problem... mine was noticable a few days ago... was doing great and then bam! out of nowhere traffic is at a standstill.

I'm about done and think I'm going to start my own search engine. Don't laugh... I've got a good idea brewing... :)

You have to wonder about the stability of Google's algorithms. My site has been all over the map.About 3 weeks back it was at 59 in Google's SERP. Then it went to 29. All of a sudden, much to my delight, it jumped to position 5 and I was patting myself on the back for the clever SEO I had been trying, all legitimate practices, no black hat. Now just as abruptly it has gone all the way back to 69! BTW, my site has been steady at number 4 in Yahoo all along.

What is going on? Why does Google feel the need to constantly manipulate their results with all this wild fluctuation? I feel sorry for people who rely on Google traffic for their livelihood. Google SERP can be almost impossible to predict.

Several of my sites are affected as well. Sit, wait, add quality links...best strategy in my opinion, once you start "fixing" stuff, it only gets worse.
