If you can't earn from a normal directory then you're in the wrong business. Don't go for the quick buck idea, you'll only be making threads in a few months asking why you've been penalised.

Regardless of the script you choose, the important thing is how you run and promote your directory.

Nearly all of the bid directories I've run have been more profitable and ranked better in search engines than the "normal" directories I used to run (and of which I still run a few). I could list a dozen reasons why I pick bid directories over the usual (and not just limited to the fact I wrote phpLinkBid :)).

IMO the problem I have with regular directories being profitable is that they create obstacles. If you set your prices low, you limit the potential revenue of a well-promoted site. If you set them too high, too many advertisers will be turned away.

Always provide free submissions and when the traffic built up, then charge them.

    It works on my directory.

besides general web directories, bidding directory is a good alternative choice,
i also use phplb since the first version,
but people use useless pr sites turning into bidding directories for quick buck damage the whole business.

I don't believe that people still believe in PR while submitting links is a directory! Weird!

I think it is good to start a Bidding Directory. I like the autopilot ability to it, and I also get alot less spam in my Bidding Directories (compared to my Regular Directories).
