As the title says Is it good to have few out going links? Is it better to have more? Or doe's it not realy make a difference?
In relation to what? The number of incoming links? If you have 10,000 incoming links and 1,000 outgoing links, I dont think that is a big deal. But if you have 10,000 outgoing links, and only 1,000 incoming, I see that as backwards.
It's good as long as you have your site/domain linked on the places that your outgoing links point to. Otherwise, they're a waste.
Nonsense - if you only have reciprocal linking, you're making yourself look spammy. A few links to good blogs and sites in your niche a) makes your site look like a 'proper' site and b) is good etiquette - we all know that Google's algo is based on backlinks, be a good neighbour to sites that you think your visitors will like.
One question Sir... How could it make you look like a spammer if your site and the referring site are linked from both ends?
I wouldn't say it is "good" because I don't think it will help you in any way. But, it is natural and shouldn't hurt you either.
I don't think there will be any results, but i heard that it's ok to link only to same niche websites.
It's not about the numbers. You can buy a "Paint by the numbers" set at Kmart (or at least you used to). But once you are done with your masterpiece you still won't be able to get it displayed in a gallery. You link to things that make sense to your visitors. 1 or 100 it doesn't matter.
Hi, I've been a member here for a while, mostly a lurker, but I have actually read that one, 'relevant' links don't mean much when compared to the PR of the backlink and two, yes, you should have outgoing links as well. My own personal ration is 8/1, 8 links in to 1 link out. I have no idea if this is the 'norm', but it works for me. Good luck. -Marcus
I think what I was getting at here is, if I link to other sites from my own will google look on this as a con or a pro or will it not matter to google what so ever?
Firstly, I know the idea that a woman knows anything about SEO is anathema to a lot of narrow-minded geeks, but I would have thought that the fact that I use a woman's name as a log-in might give the clue that I'm not a 'sir' Secondly- Google warns about the over-use of reciprocal linking http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=66356 Quote - (my emphasis) some webmasters engage in link exchange schemes and build partner pages exclusively for the sake of cross-linking, disregarding the quality of the links, the sources, and the long-term impact it will have on their sites. This is in violation of Google's webmaster guidelines and can negatively impact your site's ranking in search results. Examples of link schemes can include: * Links intended to manipulate PageRank * Links to web spammers or bad neighborhoods on the web * Excessive reciprocal links or excessive link exchanging ("Link to me and I'll link to you.")
outgoing links can be useful to enable google to establish what other sites are similar to yours and understand what your site is about but its all a bit unpredictable really.
Yes, it is unpredictable, so I highly reccommend asking the webmasters of the sites you link to, to link back to your site. Sort of like a private link exchange without going through a network.
