does not matter anymore "....Google announced in early 2005 that hyperlinks with rel="nofollow"[4] would not influence the link target's PageRank.[5] In addition, the Yahoo and Bing search engines also respect this attribute value.." ^ Microsoft (June 3, 2008), Bing.com, "Bing Community", retrieved on June 11, 2009
I disagree with above poster. It's good practice to use nofollow links. although they offer no link juice, it makes your backlinks profile look more natural. Only do follow links will cause a red flag IMO.
My practice is that I use nofollow links when I am expecting links to be posted that link to other websites. This deters a decent chunk of spam too.
As per my conception a link, any kind of link, regardless if it’s nofollow or not - It’s a potential visit for your website. As for whether Google counts nofollow links, I tend to think it does in some cases. I think Google figures out ways on its own to decide if it wants to trust a link. Some links that are “follow†might still get discounted. Some that are “nofollow†might get counted, if Google decides to trust them.
It depends on where you are using No Follow attribute. If you're adding "rel=no follow" for the links that leads to privacy policy or something else that is not a part of your promotion then it won't affect SEO, but if you're using the same for almost all anchor tag then you're creating a hurdle for yourself because crawler won't be able to find your internal pages and you will only have Home page as an indexed page for search engines.
If you won't allow search engines to follow your links on your website or anywhere then you can use nofollow attribute for hyperlinks.
Posting in no follow sites would i think looks natural. It seems you are not here to just rank high but also for knowing people about your website just.
It's absolutely a good idea to post to no follows, because it makes your back links look far more natural.
A natural mix of both Dofollow and Nofollow links gives more trust to a site. For example a link from wikipedia is by standard Nofollow but gives the target site a huge load of trust.
Even though nofollow links doesn't distribute link juice, they come in handy. How? By using it as a good bait for links. You may put good content on a nofollow link so that people may notice your work and that's good if you're building an online brand.
