    Hi Friends,
I would like to ask that to market/advertise a website more? Do you think it would be good idea to buy more domains ending with different extensions and re-direct them to your main site.

    For example,say if i have a website: www.xyz.com

Do you think it would be good or bring adverse affect on buying domains like:
    www.xyz.info
    www.xyz.ca
    www.xyz.us
    etc etc

And making them all re-direct to www.xyz.com.

Similarly, is it good to create sub-domains like:

    http://forum.xyz.com
    http://blog.xyz.com

How does that affect marketing/advertising the site and does Google likes that or not.

I would appreciate if someone could throw some light on this.

    Thanks

I would only redirect domain name when i change domain name and try to transfer page rank to new site. If you redirect mutiple domain names search engines might think it is duplicate content and penalize your site.

You won't get penalized as duplicate content by using a 301 redirect from an empty domain to the one with your content to the best of my knowledge. I've had to do it with moving sites, and it's never once been an issue. But more importantly, it's worth doing to protect your brand and trademark so others can't scoop up the other similar domains to put up competing sites.
