Shared hosting won't handle much traffic when it comes to video sharing site. Especially if you want to host videos. I would recommend you VPS at least. Well, if you are serious with this project.
Videos are going to take off in a big way within the next year or so, especially online. If you're interested in starting a site like YouTube, go for it! You may want to put a unique spin on it though, as it will be hard to copy the success of a service like that.
Excellent idea mate! But if you're serious, you need to get yourself a good dedicated server, shared hosting will not work with high bandwidth sites like video sites. There is a lot of competition in this area, so I suggest you target your site for a specific niche.
Yes, some web hosting plans come with unlimited web space but it doesn't mean that they offer unlimited everything. You should check out their terms of service to find out if there is some limit of files which can be hosted. You should also keep in mind that the server is used by many other customers and it is not possible to use so many CPU resources comparing with VPS or dedicated server.
thanks for ur wonderful comments. Hosting is not an issue, i can get dedicated as well, but the main question is about the idea, is it still worth trying. im serious about it but just wondering cos there are already so many big websites.
Like I mentioned in my earlier post, target the audience. Make a video site just for pets or for anime music videos! Something like that will always have an open market.
Yeah there is the catch. If you use more than the allowed CPU usage,they will banned your account. Its always a good choice to avoid those unlimited plan hosting.
