If the keyphrase has a high competition level, you should go to increase link popularity, because without that the whole onpage opimization won't worth too much.

you may have a look at your competitors homepages. Copy their techniques and combine them together.

Don't focus on titles and meta tags. Put your keywords in page content in natural way, then get some back links.

Grg got the point. Meta tags are not that important anymore. Sites are crawled more contextual. Write in a natural way. Do not use a too large decription tag and do not spam you meta tags with keywords. Stay narrow.

Check out some high profile sites and copy them, just replacing their keywords with yours. This shouldn't take long then you can concentrate on offpage seo.

Having said that it is important to get onpage seo right - i think some people underestimate the importance of onpage seo.

    Good luck

The advice above that was to basically forget meta tags as they're not important:mad: I mean sure it's not as weighty anymore with Google but that's leaving 40% of the search engine market as irrelevant. The others do rely on meta. Its just a good measure regardless.

But hey just piss away 40% of the market.

    Simply amazing advice.

    Here's mine.

Title tag is the #2 most important, #3 is the header tags (in general depends on SE), #4 alt text and use title tags with them ( why not ), #5 meta,

#1 is by far the anchor text in backlinks.

Then of course content or the rest is irrelevant.
