You definitely need some ads on the main page. And you might want to blend them in a bit. Most people tend to ignore ads, especially when they're bright red and look completely out of place!

Is that 5k uniques a day, or a month? Big difference, but still, even 5k a month is pretty good for a regular blog. With that kind of traffic, it wouldn't make sense to shut it down...

Building traffic is the most difficult thing to do, and it looks like you've got it. Now do something with it!

If you are getting 5K unique visitors each month, that it self is worth keeping the blog up.

When it comes to making money on it, try out some new things, new layout (the way you show the ads) etc.... Of you can offer your visitors something unique, a service or similar.

You must be in the wrong spot. You should follow this threads http://forums.digitalpoint.com/forumdisplay.php?f=27 if you use adsense to monetize your sites.

I would say that if you truly enjoy doing it, and truly want to keep it, then advertise more. Buy links in peoples sigs, put more ads on the site (not too many though, or it will look cheap) and generally try and get more people to view it. Maybe sell a couple of blog posts if you are getting 5k views...
If you enjoy doing it enough, then you should stick at it and put some more effort into it. If you don't commit to it, sell it... :)

That's one reason I have my personal blog on Wordpress.com, because I don't want to monetize it. It's just my opinion blog, and hopefully, I can get a few hits to my website from it.

Personal sites are sometimes hard to monetize, because it's not information people are searching for. You're getting good traffic, but not good conversions. I wish I was getting your traffic on any of my sites!

I would start working on using more keywords to tie to the ads, and maybe do some series on a certain subject that would keep those ads there for awhile. Also, you'll want to watch the ads and block the ones that are direct competition to you. I did that, and my adsense doubled.

As a blogger, I think selling/closing the blog is the last thing you can do....

So just hold on and keep blogging and success is inevitable.

Try different style of advertising... switch it around for a while, it can't hurt you if you will make more money in the long run ;)

I don't think you should close the blog. There is potential here even if its not a cash cow. I just commented on your blog btw. There are many ways to monetize a blog and adsense is just one of them. You could try private ad sales, cpa, or cpi ads. Best of luck.

None of your blog's pages is attractive enough to continue exploring it -- transform the main page into something resembling, say, habrahabr.ru site in terms of images/headers layout.
It's not fair to make your visitor's eyes suffer from a lots of text, they'll run out from a second visited page!

If you are blogging just for the money, and not because you have the desire to do it then you should quit.
If that's not the case then you should try reaching out to fellow bloggers in your area of expertise and try commenting on their posts. I didn't see a blogroll.
You could also add kontera, text link ads, and many many more.

According to your blog "I am a freelance Internet Entrepreneur with interests in PHP/MySQL and Linux. "

That means, you must know how to create simple PHP/MySQL applications - there are literally thousands (if not millions) of internet entrepreneurs who are interested in PHP type software that can help them run & automate their business - have you considered writing an application with the intention of reselling it?

To give you an example, the membership site software I use cost $2,000 and it's a PHP application. You can also offer digital products on topics like website design & creation as that seems to be the theme on your blog. For example, look at the products at http://www.digital-resale-rights.com/websiteguru.htm - you could easily add in some of these products to sell on your blog at $29 to $49 each.

Adsense alone is not going to be enough for the time and effort you're putting into it. Best of luck...
