I have been searching and searching--doing little bit of my researches --and except Yahoo -- have not yet come across a paid directory that is PR8:(

http://www.business.com that is considered as an authority site by Google - (Chack Here ) --has a Page Strength of 9 ( Chack HERE )and has incredible number of backlinks from .edu and .gov sites not to mention loads of high PR backlinks from all the big names on business like the Forbes website -- is still PR7 only.

    domain popularity http://www.business.com PR 7 ( [Google PageRankâ„¢ 7] )
    Backlinks: 591793 (846 Domains » 755 different IPs)
    PageRanks: 171xPR0 20xPR1 65xPR2 162xPR3 171xPR4 120xPR5 91xPR6 41xPR7 5xPR8
LinkStrength: 739.32 [A score calculated based on all PageRanks that link to http://www.business.com.]

On the otherhand a free directory --Webtopia is PR8 and has seemingly less strength than business .com in terms of backlinks though it has PS -9.5 with loads .edu and .gov links.

    domain popularity http://www.webopedia.com PR 8 ( [Google PageRankâ„¢ 8] )
    Backlinks: 214937 (871 Domains » 818 different IPs)
    PageRanks: 112xPR0 28xPR1 67xPR2 145xPR3 221xPR4 169xPR5 101xPR6 26xPR7 2xPR8
LinkStrength: 577.43 [A score calculated based on all PageRanks that link to http://www.webopedia.com.]

My question is -- do you think Google treats Paid directories differently from other sites and free directories?

Yes, it's very hard to achieve PR8 for a paid directory.
Google doesn't like paid link .

OK --well --so John Scott says -PR8 is bad for profit making sites. Is htere any piece of Google's guide lines that says commercial sites should have maximum of only PR7?

I see lots of commercial / profit making sites having PR8. Is not Sitepoint a profit making site? DP was PR8 before last update. What about http://slashdot.org ?

I think John went too fast -as he mentined that once it achieved PR8 everybody threatened to expose it to Google- I reckon slow and stedy should be fine --PR8 in 3/4 years time-frame.

You never know Richie. I have seen a lot of PR8 sites already and they have been around just the same as me. Google was not ready back then for this kind of thing. I have picked up PR4 in the last update and if I reach PR8 then it would be justifiable. I did not do it from PR0 to PR8. It took some time to build. You see a lot of people at Links Sales buying links like crazy. Theres a new concept. Google was not ready back then. PR7 appears to be a lot more common that is used to be. But I may be wrong. If I do; there are lots of sites out there that would be affected. Its the New generation. Now more and more people are trying to reach the high mark. PR is what brings them the money. Would you submit to them if thay have PR3 and the price is $60.00 ? Shoot me in the HEAD.

We are trying to bring Fresh innovations for the directory business. Its a win win situation for evryone now and goes like a chain. People were unaware of it before but its not anymore the issue. Paypal is gaining from this events. The chain is never ending. You see marketing sites and people sells this.

As I have said in other threads that those who don't embrace the the new concept will be left behind. I know what content means, I know what steady means, but people is more inclined to the PR juice. I will call them LIARS if they say they don't. These are marketing strategies.

I agree with many of the points made in that article, but not the generalization used to create a headline. A good solid PR8 is not going to be dangerous unless you try to beat the clock and get your links wherever they are hot right now. You need to focus long term, and then you should be fine.

No problem Richie. I am tired also of people saying about Unique Content when in reality they buy links and promoting their sites like CRAZY. I know the reason. Its the race to the TOP. Whoever goes there gets the BIG chunk.

I dont think so. All sites are treated the same when it comes to achieving PR. But a PR8 site is hard to achieve as a paid directory because why would high pagerank authority sites (which you will need) link to your paid directory for?

I agree with both Jude and Blogmaster -- its a new world --internet was not that big 3/4 years back--Google's algo were not the same then. I think G just had to change its policy to go along the time --when I browse now --I see lots of commercial sites PR8/9 on my toolbar.

If G had not changed --it would have missed the commercial tricks of the net. I think it is perfectly OK now to have PR8 if you have the $$$$. But still I thing one has to work harder, spend much much money for a paid web directory to get PR8 than a commercial --well established company.

But I don't think there is any restrictions from Google that Paid Directories could not achieve such and so PR:cool:

Nice point Mike and that is TRUE.

What deters us right now is from some people that says PR is NOT important. Huh!! Don't get LINKS and let me see if you make MONEY out of your Website. If you don't want CASh as most people here do. Then this is not your PLACE as MOST people here is bound to EARN a LIVING.

I am always challenging those people whol I call self-proclaimed frustrated SEO-EXPERTS.

I just ask them to type any keyword/keyphrase on Google for a competitive term and check the first 100 sites and their PR--I tell them to show me how many sites they find bellow PR4.

First content--second most important thing for a site's SERP is PR. And we --paid directories can give it in large numbers --for a small sum:D

Generally speaking you´re right. Unless you are botw or dmoz getting links everywhere from people discussing you. But you can have more than a directory on the directory´s domain name, and there are many ways to achieve a high PR. Not sure about an 8, but definitely a 7.

pr8 IS POSSIBLE. PR 9 is possible.

Things take time. If you only buy links than it's almost impossible but if you give legitmate reasons for authority sites to link to you and you in turn become a respected authority site. Then yes it is possible. Do I predict many will ever reach PR8? NO. Will some on this board... Definitely. May not be August update, or November... May not even be 2007 or 2008... It will happen though.

That's definetely TRUE Dubz. One thing only that I'm not agreable with others is when they say PR is not everything. While they say this, they are quietly linking to HIGHER PR Sites. Marketing Strategy thats it. I'll stay in the Game for as long as it takes.
