I promote a programme but am frustrated with just a 7 day cookie duration as I feel that this will lose me legitimate referrals. Speaking to my account manager he has told me that it is difficult to extend this period and that this policy applies to all their partners. The merchant involved is quite big in the industry I work in.... But how difficult is this technically? Because for me 'difficult to implement' and 'not wanting to do it' are very much different things. Would it be possible for the merchant to extend the cookie period for just referrals originating from my link? [i.e. other partners would have the 7 day cookie duration but mine would have say a 2 month duration]
i think, Tracking plays vital role in setting the Cookies limit, and Tracking is purely property of a Network
For example, with directrack it is not difficult. I think that the minimum duration of the cookie should be at least 30 days Bye
yes but technically is it difficult for a merchant to programme this functionality extending the cookie duration? And also as I said the merchant usually uses cookies of just 7 days - would it be possible (technically) for the merchant to arrange to extend the cookie duration for just visitors who click on my customised unique affiliate link? My fear is that this is a big player in the field and you know how merchants of this kind can be....(inflexible, and in some instances may include some clauses in their agreement which are unfavourable to the small affiliate)
Probably not a programming or tech issue. The CPA or % they payout for the offer has that 7 day cookie factored in. They realize that X number are going to come in after the fact. So they opt to calc that all into the payout. Now they could move people up to a 30 day cookie but they might lower the CPA or % a little to adjust. At the end of the day it's all a Profit and Loss spreadsheet. Numbers in numbers out.
