Personally I don't like domain name because at first glance it is hard to remember how to type it in. Also, I think
it will be a very long time before there is a search engine that can contend with Google. Yahoo is ok, but there main
page has so many links and buttons where google's main page is nice and simple.

It's not better than Google, but has the potential to be useful in a different way.

A search engine can be useful other than giving relevant searches?

Personally for me, the result page of CUIL is confusing, unlike in other search engines that you'd be able to see the hierarchy in the result page. As of now, atleast for me, Google is still the ultimate SE you can use. However, if Cuil would come up with a much better algorithm in bringing up relevant results for queries and would be able to revolutionarize SE, then maybe CUIL would have a chance in being the choice of people in finding information. :)

I found Cuil to be quite useless - the relevance of the search results are terrible. Amazing what hype can do though - they have been getting a lot of traffic!

They could make it big, but they need to tweak their algos over time. Google wasn't always this good (and still isn't in my eyes).

It's some good healthy competition for Google, and hopefully Cuil can get licensed to allow PPC style bidding on it as it should hold a fair amount of traffic. That way we always have an alternative to Google. Because if Google did become the only search engine, and you got banned or dropped in the serps your messed truly.

Personally, I like the design and results page. Makes a nice change.

Read that, on the first day, a search for 'cuil' did not even have a link to their homepage.

Likewise, now, a search for 'cuil.com' has The National Post as number one link.

If google fully opened up their search approach and exposed user interaction personal to you, they'd have the full biscuit.

For example, you sign in to google as normal, google learn more about your search preferences and even writing style and give more personal searches. Furthermore, remembering your location (current or normal) so that a search for 'taxi' gave general results on one side of page and, on the right, near to current location.

    Just a thought

Same here! Sure they may claim to index more than google, but its only the first couple of pages of results that count anyway.

I'd like to see a real competitor to Google, but I don't believe Cuil is it.

I dont get this search engine at all. It doesn't show up any results for my name and I also own a domain. Its suppose to index 3 times as much as google.

It wont' survive. In the economy as it stands (and probably, even if we weren't in a recession) it will die out. With hardly any traffic, and no fund base, it cannot possibly be here this time next year.
