I would love to know this question. The only problem that I can think of about owning the product is where will you get all of your affiliates? I know a jv can certainly help but its not as easy as it sounds....just want your opinions about it cus I want to release my own product Thanks
Well one way is to simply announce it here. If your product is good enough then people will promote it. Otherwise you need to find affiliates promoting similar products and pitch to them. This requires more work but it's still more bang per buck than promoting traffic yourself.
Well, as an affiliate, you pick a product that already sells well, learn how to market it and make some good cash. As a publisher, you might fail, then fail again and again. I think most NEW CB publishers failed at first, but this all could be written off as an experience. If you do not make good money as an affiliate, chance are you are not a great marketer and your product will fail faster than you can imagine. But if you find a very profitable niche, come up with a killer product, an amazing sales page that sells very well and then gets LOADS of targeted visitors - than being a publisher is the way
own is better in the long term. But your mileage may vary. If you have a kick*** product it sells itself because everyone wants to be affiliate for your product
In my opinion, promoting as an affiliate will provide some of the essential marketing and strategical skills that are absolutely necessary and relevant to product creation. The skills required to produce a valuable product do not blossom overnight, and if you were to do so without the groundwork, I would expect disaster. If you're just starting out, I think it's imperative to learn everything as an affiliate before attempting as a publisher. Please believe me when I say that this is only a suggestion. Unless you have some awfully impressive help, or past marketing experience, my best suggestion is to learn from others, maybe crash and burn a few times, but never give up. The old adage reigns true. Hard work leads to success.
I am both an affiliate and publisher. I was an affiliate for about 18 months before I launched my 1st product and the things I learnt as an affiliate really help when you are a publisher. If you are just starting out then try being an affiliate first as this is when you will learn how markets react to your advertising methods. and yes, My first 2 products were not a success however they were a great learning curve. Swerd
I agree with swerd, I've been an affiliate for a little over a year now, and I just now made my own product that will soon be launched. You really gain a better understanding of what exactly sells, as well as what makes affiliates want to promote your product. That's why my product is kick ass
Just curious - do publishers spend a lot of time doing customer facing support (especially so for non-ebook products). For ebooks I would imagine you still need to handle the refunds. How much time does it take?
Well, it depends on the type of product, but as a general rule sure you have to face customers with their queries, complains, refunds and so on. Its not like you get your part of the comission for nothing, you have to support your product as well.
Well, Jake, the owner of RunYourCarWithWater had to hire people to do support... because apparently many people can't even download or open an e-book, and when you make 1000 sales per day - you can imagine there is support to be done Even if it's just an e-book.
Its better not to scare the guy, its not of everyone to make 1000 sales per day, and even if so, 1000 sales mean at least $10000/day which is enough to hire someone...
