What's better for conversions - a traditional long form sales page without video or with video?

if its autoplay and starts up as soon as you open the page I x out of the page as soon as I hear it.
I can assure you that many people are of the same mind as I am.

IF I decide I want to listen then I will click the start and listen but I will NOT have my ears assulted as soon as I open a page.

I agree that I prefer videos, as long as I have the choice of clicking "Play"

Long sales pages are so prevalent and same old same old these days that I tend to switch off.

Use video but don't allow it to autoplay, give the users an option of clicking play with the video

I was just discussing this topic the other day with someone wondering the same thing. I agree with everybody above me who have said don't put the video on auto play. I too opt out of the site as soon as I hear a video start up its annoying. Also remember that there are a lot of people still (not me) but that are still on slow internt connections so this makes their page load slower. I have a subscribers list and have had quite a few people telling me they are still on slow dial up connections. So keep that in mind.

Video are great but make sure the content in it is "unique". I have only ever seen a couple of videos on squeeze pages that have captured my attention. I don't or have not yet used videos on my squeeze page. So will watch this thread to see what else is helpful.

Indeed, they say using videos is better than writing text, these days.

I heard many people say they have had a better conversion with

a video on there page but you will have to split test and see what

    is right for you

Without any statistics to back it up, I am going to go out on a limb and say a well done video used correctly can drastically increase the conversion rate.

I just added a high quality video sales pitch with professional voice over to the top of my sales page, so I will be able to directly report my findings on this subject.

I agree with mostly what you folks are saying - not to make it autoplay, however there is twist to that. Lets say I make a landing page in dieting niche.. if I upload my video on youtube and make it autoplay on my sales page then every hit I get on my lp, means a view of the video - this raises the view on my youtube videos making it even more better.

I think video generally helps conversions, but one thing that bugs the hell out of me is when they use autoplay and you CANNOT pause or navigate the video manually. That usually turns me off right away and makes me a very disinterested customer..lol.

If the video actually gives useful content then it is good to have video on sales page and it will increase your conversion.

On that point I think a short sales letter with engaging video should do the job!

I agree with alot of what has been said on this page - but here is my 2 cents:

-- Never have an autoplay Video, keep in mind alot of people will be surfing your page at work, in public place or even at home and they don't want a bunch of noise to draw attention to the fact they're looking at a money making website, porn site etc ;)

-- Make sure the video is actually professional - For goodness sakes please don't put together a monotone voice powerpoint in camtasia, it scares customers off.

-- You should use both a salesletter and a video, this way people can get access to the information in 2 different ways.

-- Always have a call to action at the end of your video - meaning that you Tell them to do something at the end of the video, whether that is... "Keep Reading" or "Scroll down to the bottom and Order"

    Hope that helps

This is a good point - to include action at the end of the video, didn't think of that.
