Is it better to go with per click or per impression

What's the thought out there on clicks vs. impressions for a new web site that doesn't get too much traffic?

    Thanks!

Hmmm... If you don't have much traffic, making money by traffic volume, (ie, per impression) probably won't be as effective ass having some well placed per-click ads.

If you have a lot of traffic that don't last long, then go with cpm

If you have less traffic, but your visitor hang around then go with ppc

Yeah, ValueClick or Fastclick do CPM, as far as I can remember.

Most big CPM programs like Casale and Fastclick only pay US visitors.

I agree with Vic on this one. There are an aweful lot of things that go into answering this question.

Before you pay for anything, no matter CPM or PPC, you need to know your metrics. You need to know how many visitors it takes to make 1 sale. You need to have a good sales process in place. You need to know how much each visitor is worth to you.

As a general rule of thumb, CPM works best when advertising either membership based sites OR advertising a newsletter or something whereby you will continually follow-up with the visitor, long after the first visit to your site.
