What is your experience? Does it matter?

All depends? are you just starting out in the niche of the new product or have you been promoting products in that niche for a while?

If your new it is best to start off with a product that has been around for a while or has a gravity better than say 40.0
least that way you know others have been making sales with it

unless you have solid grounds and niche knowledge to believe that it will be a hit, I would stick with old product known to make money for its affiliates and EPC data publicly available

You'll have to do some testing to come up with a winner.

An old product / high gravity doesn't always mean high conversions.

The answer is somewhere in between - There are old products with high conversions whilst there are old products with some of the lowest conversions.

Thanks for your great advice. Testing. I thought so! Already doing it ... and it is a tedious process :) Worthwhile though!

Yes, to be honest gravity does not always mean it is a converting product for lots of reasons - use it as a guide only.

Some of the best converting products I have promoted in the past had a gravity less than 10 and I wanted it to stay like that it means less affiliates ride the money train ;)

Look at the niche, find a good match and what people are looking for and then give it to them with a top quality product and you will have a winner.

A new product in an untapped niche is risky because there isn't a lot of proof that this product can convert. On the other hand competition will be low so you can get good traffic from search engines and cheaper PPC.

A well established product in a saturated niche has a proven track record for success but competition in search engine marketing and PPC will be higher.

Test both methods of marketing and see which one works best for you!

I couldn't help but think of a product that most have sold really well at one point, maybe it still does but seems like half the world is using it. That product being something like You can't block this and you cant leave yet. I wonder how many people that want that and still don't have it. :) So, what has done well in the past may not also do well in the future. Now don't jump me if that product is still leaping into people's machines. :) I don't know. I was on the site a while back and tried to buy the links were broke so I'm guessing its not selling so well any more.

Someone said no time to test. You gotta test.

Some of the old products don't really convert well, it's just that there was no other similar products back then there was no competition, therefore all affiliates naturally inclined to promote it as it shows some gravity. Take your time to look through the sales funnel system or go over the sales letter before you even contemplate to promote them or not.

Sales funnel? I may know what you mean.

I was looking at a product the other day, decided to promote it.

Then I clicked to close it and up popped the "you can't close this" script. I clicked to stay on page and it then took me to a subscription service that was sold through 2checkout. I opted not to promote them. That's a scamy move and don't trust them now.

So yes, check them out well!

Thanks for sharing that. I agree - that's not trustworthy!
