Hello, I'm new to domain names and website hosting (only couple of years in this area). I'd like to know from yourselves, what do you think about this. Is it better to have .NET domain or .COM domain at our websites? Or its exactly the same ? Are there any changes in the way google index the website, if it's .NET or .COM ? What's the first extension normal users think about? .NET or .COM ? For instance, someone who says "oh i saw some website earlier about fishing in caribbean. Let me try www.fishincaribbean.com" Or will he say "...Let me try www.fishincaribbean.net". Thanks for your comments.
google views all extensions as same.therefore it does not matter which extension is the name on but if it is a .com then people are likely to remeber it more than the .net. it might simply prove to be more user-friendly
.COM in most circumstances is the first choice TLD and I'd advise you got for that. Google will treat a .COM domain and a .NET domain exactly the same.
a .com is better in the sense that he will say first.. "oh let me try fishincaribbean.com" before he try .net.
If the .com is available then go register it RIGHT NOW!!! .COM is the king! There are a lot of people that doesn't know the difference between .com .net .info .eu e.t.c. People when they are looking for something they are looking for the www.KEYWORD.com first then all the other extensions. If someone tells you to go and check the new website e.x YouTube where are you going to check first? YouTube.COM or YouTube.NET ? Although there a lot of .NET domains that could sell for hundreds of dollars. The .COM version could be sold for millions... (speaking only for the domain name). On the other hand if you have the .COM version (with no content) this doesn't means that the other websites FishinCaribbean.NET, FishinCaribbean.INFO, FishinCaribbean.EU, FishinCaribbean.US will have less value..
I believe That Google treats all extensions the same!!! We have done many experiments on some of our domains and even .la has no problem with Google (e.g. paros.la) Careful and Pro SEO has no afraid of Extensions!
I don't think he's asking for SEO reasons, I think he's asking for branding purposes. Am I correct here?
Actually, sometimes it can be easier to promote a .net TLD than a .com - I have a site that has a .net TLD (rather than a .com) and people have a very easy time remembering it over the .com (probably because it's different - I never asked them why).
i think if you have a brandable domain that ryhmes with .net, like sportingbet.net or something, it would be easier to remember and plus its catchy
.com is the best choice, if .com is taken, or if your site is purely informational, I tend to prefer .info
