Just a quick question about anchor text. I know that an external link that contains anchor text to you site is very powerful. But does anyone know if including anchor text on your own site and pointing to you own site does any good? For example I make fortune cookies and my url is http://www.tankinz.com. Within my site does it do any good to have a phrase like: Fortune cookies can make a perfect wedding favors. The links for these anchor texts are pointing to the same url that they originate from. Hope this makes sense. Any info would be great. Thanks!
It is kinda bad for your users, there is no point to have those links there from a functional point of view. For search engines, yea it's useful, but I'm not sure if you can somehow get penalized for that?
I can understand how the links can confusing for the cusotmer, however; I read that you can actually take off the link (so it doesn't look like a link) and your customers really don't notice it. Is this fair play to do or do the search engines penalize you for this?
Absolutely... You WANT to vary link text on your site for the same URL. I don't think it's really bad for the user especially for contextual links... My global nav has a link to my 6 most popular product pages. My footer has a link to all 20 or so of my product pages including the 6 most popular from the global nav (so they get passed twice the PR from every page on the site)... And every page has a breadcrumb where the current page in the breadcrumb is also a link like: home -> pagea -> currentpage So that when I am on a product page it at least has 2 links (breadcrumb and footer) with differing link text... When on the 6 most popular product pages I get 3 links (header, breadcrumb, and footer) where I can vary the text. Each link uses a different targeted keyword phrase or slight variations of the targeted keyword phrases from the <title> of the target of the link If someone sees "race cars" in the header, "racing cars" in breadcrumb, and "cars for racing" in the footer I don't really think that is confusing to the user at all. And the SEO benefits are great.
Sure it is. Link exchanges are good for you and for your partner sites. Some people just have a "partner sites" page where they just post links to help with organization.
Amen on that. When users click a link that returns them to the top of the same page they are on, you'll find some of them getting irritated.
You should absolutely use links like that. Text links in the content of the site like that are a good practice for on-page optimization. Links from other sites that are in the content like that are even better. Edit: They shouldn't link to the same page they are from, They should link to other pages of your website.
You should always do internal link building, something that is over looked by most SEO's. Anchor to the root.
Well, I have some work to do on my site then! I am actually pretty excited about this. So the SE's don't penalize a page for having anchor text that routes them to the same url, right? I just want to make sure before I do this. Also, I understand to make these links as natural as possible for page visitors. Thanks all!
Same URL? Or same page? Keyword-rich anchor text in links pointing to other pages in the same website are great, if that's what you meant, but not to the same page. Those links to your other pages allow you to tell the search engines what those pages are about, via the anchor text.
In visitor perspective that is very embarrassing to them. If you put more links in a single paragraph user cant read the content and they might leave the page also.
it's an old and well-used trick to 'concentrate' PR on certain pages of your site (typically your home page). Don't overlook it!
think this are confirmed by google before in the seo tips. it is good to give useful experience for visitors
