Is it bad when Half Your Competition Leaves?

So I've been having a rough couple weeks with low sales. I actually turned off my PPC ads yesterday but turned it back on today.

I noticed half my competition quit PPC as well...

    Bad signs?

It's good that I'm getting cheaper bids now, much cheaper but it seems I'm not the only one suffering with low sales.

I just finished cloaking my links now, maybe that'll help with some commission theft and I'm going to try for a few more days at PPC.

I know it has something to do with the time of the year and all, and possible Clickbank system.

By the way they're updating some systems again today. And we all know what happens when Clickbank updates their systems... crappy sales.

It's funny though I'm doing really well with my adsense sites at about $20 a day average. And CJ is coming along with more and more sales everyday.

Just Clickbank my MAIN affiliate network isn't giving it to me. :)

    Oh well. Come on SPRING!

With Clickbank it is. How easy is it to replace another person's id with yours? And now that Zango is everywhere, they steal your commission automatically. Just cloak your links and you won't have as many problems.

If half your competition leaves and you still make sales, don't worry about that.
However, you should check the vendor you are promoting to see that he hasn't changed anything in his sales page that could damage sales. Also try to enter the sales page through your hoplink and reach the order page to make sure your affiliate name is there.

forelmashi - generally, you don't have to worry so much. If your links are cloaked, it's harder to steal commissions but still possible. We have to live with that (or publish our own product, then we get commissions no matterwhat).

let me help out here, actually i do have some experience with keywords like this, alot of times its packed with competition that will lose money until they learn they how to master this keyword to make sales. most people will lose money on it and leave. some will have a good landing page and ctr and will end up staying.

Usually high traffic keywords or high competition.

Right now I'm using some cloaking software, it's pretty cool and it pretty much stopped Zango and consumer theft. PM me if you want details.

You cloak your links by buying a cheap .info domain with godaddy, then setting up a simple redirect [your affiliate link]

they give you the option to cloak the links.

I really don't think commission theft is as huge of a problem as people believe - but maybe I'm ignorant.

When people are making 300$ a day during the year [usually] - this subject rarely pops up.

    Hi,

If I have a presell landing page, and my link to the clickbank hop link is like www.domain.com/redirect/blabla.html and it's redirected using .htaccess redirect, should i still worry? I mean theres always a possibility for commission stealing, but is there another thing that i can do ?

What I have noticed is if once you redirect and your hop id is showing. It's anyone's game now.

It's better to cloak all the way using JavaScript to hide your URL. This way adware like Zango can't read the URL and change it and it's harder for visitors to change it as well. They have to do a bit extra work. The software I'm using also encrypts the redirect so they can't lift any details from that either. And so far I have more sales today then the last two days combined and it's only 1pm. Go cloaking software!

I have actually heard of people losing hundreds of dollars just because they actually didn't cloak their links. It is one of the things I first read about before I even started my affiliate campaign. For some reason people think I make most of my money off of my blog enhancing tips web site but that's not the case at all. Most all of my incoming cash does come from affiliate advertising. Other people do not cloak their own links that are selling the exact same thing as me and when we compare a usually always have a fourth more of cash than them. Then when I checked over their web sites their links were never cloaked. So I believe it is important to cloak your links unless you are okay with losing a couple hundred dollars every week.

Be aware of offto.net I have just found they could change your URL and redrect to theirs, this scam bag!!!!

offto.net/intelius is MY LINK, I've been using it for two weeks, I saw I had 0 impressions when I logged CJ yesterday. I logged back into offto.net this afternoon this LINK is GONE from my account and it still connects to INTELIUS!

I am going to change all my links..

    Change them to what??

I have been using for 6 weeks now and not had a problem, just checked most of my links and they seem to be OK, been through to the Clickbank page and they show me as the affiliate at the bottom.

I hope you are proven to be incorrect, anyone using offto.net does so at their own risk.

LOL. Change the affiliate links? Seriously... that's sheer nonsense. I don't modify the aff link at all. I'd love to see actual proof of that ridiculous notion.
