I have a few websites that got indexed by Google about 4 or 5 months ago. I only started building backlinks for one of them and that's the only one that's really receiving a significant amount of traffic. Is it bad not to build backlinks for your website from the very beginning? Or does Google just take into account how many backlinks were built but not necessarily when they were built?
Absolutely not... It's never too early or too late to build links. If everyone participated in Google's Eutopia, no one would build links. They would wait for them to come naturally. And that would take time. So even in Google's ideal scenario this would not be anything bad. I would suggest that you don't go out and build 1000 links per day. Ramp up... Start small and less frequently... then increase the frequency and the number of links you build per day as time passes.
Actually I have found that the results come more easily when you build links to older sites as opposed to newer ones.
In my opinion, it's better to start the campaign that way. Let Google initially rank your website based on your content rather than backlinks. After a couple of months, you can start building backlinks and will gain a much prominent ranking and a reputation.
absolutely not. People is too worried of doing something wrong that many often don't try anything. What results can you expect if you don't try?
