There is a bunch of companies that tell you they will send 5000 visitors for a certain amount of money .... is it bad for the website to do that ?

I'm not sure which companies you refer to, but really, I don't see paying for traffic as being that bad of a thing. Basically, you are paying SEO companies for traffic, in a roundabout way. If the company you refer to does it in some short of shady manner that does not produce traffic that creates conversions, then no, don't do it.

We all "pay for traffic" in one way or another. Whether or not that way is monetized depends on which way you are doing it.

well i dont know if they do it in a shady way or not ... they just tell you they will get you 5000 visitors for a certain amount of money ... now i don't if they do that by implementing the site in their ads or someting ...
but paying for visitors wont hurt with your google ranking and other stuff ?

I would never pay for bulk traffic. The hits from these types of sites are worthless. They don't convert to sales and don't convert to new links back to your site either. In addition, If you have google adsense on your site you'll be banned from adsense for traffic that is against their TOS. So there is risk to bulk traffic with no benefit.

mircea007, most of the companies in that "pay for traffic" crowd are crap. If you need traffic, use a legitimate advertising service, like Adwords.

All those sites are scams. You will see 5000 visitors from the same ip

    There's a couple different sources.
Some companies use bots, they are from unique ip's but the same subnet (most of the time it will be from overseas). Others use paid-per-view/paid-to-surf traffic which is useless since the viewers are only interested in the $0.002 they are getting paid to view your site for 20 seconds (thats if they are even at the computer). And some use traffic from expired domains the problem here is the traffic is not targeted so the people will most likely bounce.

There's other sources from paid traffic but that's a few. For the most part paid traffic is useless for conversions/clicks but I've heard some people use it to boost their alexa.

I do not see any reason for buying traffic. I fail to understand what good you can make out of it except just building your traffic stats.

Good and organic traffic helps you in your monetizing efforts while these paid ones are simply for hit and run! How can anyone ever benefit out of it?

Yes. Its not targeted traffic and the fake traffic can hurt your rankings. I use to use a traffic exchange for my blog and have done much better in terms of search engine rankings since I have stopped.

It's just a waste of time, money, and effort :) Paid traffics doesn't convert to leads/ sales. I think you should pay more attention on building a quality site and optimize it so it can generate huge amount of visitors from search engines(Google).

Depends if it's quality traffic. Traffic from media buys or PPC is good traffic while stuff like bot traffic and PTC traffic is now :p

From my experience I never got any good results for the few times I tried it. I paid for pop under and I got traffic, but no real visitors. Afterwards, a person contacted me trying to sell me a more expansive package. I said NO! Pay per click will bring you targeted traffic and also results. Invest in PPC instead. There are probably good traffic companies, but there are fewer PPC companies and they are well known. It seems better for me.

Paying for traffic is such a bad idea. Such offer tends to be short-term and not even targeted. You need targeted, "real" traffic that has good conversion value.

Sometimes this traffic is pop under traffic. This means your site appears in a window under another site. Your site gets seen when the user closes the site they were initially lloking at. Pop unders are not usually blocked, but the traffic is untargeted.

Adult industry use this type of traffic and some say it works although I personally have never found it to work for me.
