Hi, I have been toying with the idea of creating an eBook (kinda guide for items) and is it okay if I pick up select articles from my own site and make that into an eBook? Any suggestions? Pros and Cons? Thanks !
That sounds like a great idea! In fact, some websites provide tools to help you do just that. I unfortunately can't remember which ones do that, but a "convert blog to book" search might point you in the right direction.
Good idea. The electronic publishing process may be relatively straightforward, but writing a novel certainly is not. ‘The big problem with the explosion in e-publishing is that the vast majority of books that are being self-published are just plain awful – badly written, badly edited, badly formatted,’ says former journalist Stephen Leather. ‘Most of the so-called “indie†writers, who previously would have been described as “unpublishedâ€, rush to get their work online and frankly most of them are wasting their time. A badly written book isn’t going to sell, no matter how cheap it is.’ Leather compares writing a novel to running a marathon. ‘Anyone who finishes a marathon deserves kudos – it’s a long haul, it’s hard work,’ he says. ‘But just because you’ve run a marathon it doesn’t mean you should be running at the Olympics. 'Very few writers published the traditional way see their first book in print – it’s often their fifth or sixth that is good enough to be published. Jack Higgins wasn’t published until after he’d written more than a dozen novels and he didn’t achieve any real success until his 36th – The Eagle Has Landed.’ Before you start, it’s worth thinking about the type of book you want to write. Genre novels – particularly crime thrillers, fantasy, paranormal romance and chick-lit – seem particularly suited to the Kindle format.
That's good idea to making an E-book from article, but still i must say you should try Leather Jackets atleast once.
Hi.. I've used my blogs to create books before it's a wonderful way to earn some money. One important tip -- be sure to include things that aren't on the blog as well. This means adding a handful of unpublished articles to the book to increase the value of it. Be sure when you create the saleS page or description of the book you note that it's from you blog and includes 10 to 20 extra articles on such and such topic. Also.. I remember reading an ebook from WSO that talked about a person that took his whole book and published it on a general free blog. At the very top of the blog he advised people that if they wanted to save time they could buy the completed book for $7 at the sales page link. That's a wonderful idea for you since you have a blog and want to turn it into a book! Plus we all know time is money! If you want .. PM me and I can see if I can find that book for you. Hope I helped and Good luck...
Repurposing content like that is a great way to get yourself an ebook. You can also turn the articles into an audibook or video. Get as much mileage as you can out of what you've written. Good luck! Jon
Though you can pick articles from your blog or website but the risk is that those who are regular visitor of your website and have gone through all the contents on your website will not like to purchase your 2nd eBook once they came to know your strategy as they can get all the content for free on your website. So, you have to add something extra that you are not writing on your websites.
I agree that you should write additional content for the e-book. Otherwise, you will come across as lazy to your regular readers. However, you could offer an e-book of your current content from a landing page that you direct new visitors to from a forum, such as DP. ;-)
