Is it acceptable to submit an article for the purpose of advertising your site?

I have never submitted an article before. I set up my profile in EzineArticles and am ready to write something. What is the best approach to the article? Should I write something controversial? Should I just write something to announce my new site?

Looking for a little strategic advice.

Write about the content of your site without blatantly advertising your site. Write about its niche. You can advertise your site in the "resource box" which will appear below the article itself. You'll still get a lot clicks to your site though if your article is interesting.

The more interesting, the more useful it is the more chance of it getting picked up by serious sites.

Thanks a lot. I have a very controversial subject I could write about... but I think I will start by submitting an article about my site first. I appreciate your help.

Can we submit blog posts/articles to article directories instead?

I would say that at least 90% of the articles on EZA are there for promo purposes.

The best approach depends on your niche, your audience and your desired outcome.

For instance, desired outcomes might be:

    1. Create/reinforce your brand.
    2. Build a backlink for Goog.
    3. Get them to read/view some info of yours on a different topic.
    4. Get them to read/view some info of yours that continues the topic.
    5. Have them click to subscribe to a list.
    6. Have them click to buy something (affiliate or your own stuff).

Each one has a "best" approach.

    Good luck.

I think if you have a great resoucre box in EZA that doesn't look spammy you will have good success.

I don't think anyone writes articles just for fun -- everyone is trying to promote something.

I usually write a quality article (500 words or so), and then end it with, "Find more information about what's discussed above at www..."

I also include a link in my author bio section.
