Is It A Good/Bad Idea To Have Internal Linking?

Discussion in 'Search Engine Optimization' started by lyndatreb, Jan 10, 2010.

I have a Wordpress blog (my first). On each of my blog posts, I was thinking about having a link to my Home (static) page which is a review of the main product I am promoting. Is this a good/bad idea? I would use the name of the book in my anchor text. Sorry if this is a dumb question.

    Thanks

good idea to have interlinking througout your blog posts. use a related posts plugin, and a breadcrumbs plugin, to automatically add some interlinking. good for each page to link back to your static page. consider using a different anchor text (not your book title), since you should be able to rank for your book title, if its unique.

Thanks for the input. Just to clarify, I'm also trying to help my static page rank for the book title. Are you saying I shouldn't use the book title in my anchor text to link back to that page?

If you really want the static page to rank for the book title, then I suppose, its best to use the book title as anchor text. If your book title is unique enough, however, I can't imagine why your site wouldn't rank organically for the book title.

From a marketing perspective, if you have a unique "long tail keyword" as your book name, and your site already ranks for the book name. I would devote time to building anchor text that would attract your target demograpic, regardless of whether they know your book's title.

For example, if you were writing a book on superstring theory called "the elegance of superstrings: a distant dream of einstein." Anyone who typed that search in google should land on your page, just because there probably aren't any other exact keyword matches. In this case, you might want your anchor text to be something like "Books on Quantum Mechanics." That way, when your site starts to really rank, anybody who's looking for books on QM, might land on your book's static page, become intrigued, and buy the book.

Internal linking is good in every site as it could also pass pr link juices to other pages.

Internal linking is a good thing to do, as it helps in deep indexing your website, as Shinobi27 has said. You could very well have a link to your home page post in every other post.

What does this internal linking mean? Is it like creating links and hyperlinks among my own pages and sub-pages?

    1 Word = Wikipedia

How many internals do they have?

Yes it is a great way for building backlinks. Be sure to have a good internal link system, but don't over do it.

Your internal links should ideally point upwards to more important pages where the keyword competition is a little tougher.
