Just wanted to know whether it was 3 ad units in total including the link unit or whether it was 3 ad units plus a link unit?

Yeah the confusing part is where they say something like" referred to as an add unit for the rest of this document" or something or other

    The exact text is

"Link units are considered to be 'Google ads' for purposes of these program policies."

    in the TOS.

So to me that makes them an ad unit!

Are they not Google Ads? The product line of Google Ad's comprises of ad units, link unit, referral buttons & Adsense for search.

yes I just wanted to clarify. It is a slightly confusing wording and technically applied by a good lawyer could easily have people breaching the TOS

Policies of major companies are rather ambiguous, hence difficult to understand. We always have the option to contact Google to clear certain ambiguities or doubts.

    You are welcome :)

    From https://www.google.com/adsense/policies

    Ad Placement

    * Up to three ad units may be displayed on each Web site page.
    * A maximum of two Google AdSense for search boxes may be placed on a page.
    * A single link unit may be placed on each Web site page, in addition to the ad units and search boxes specified above. Link units are considered to be 'Google ads' for purposes of these program policies.
    * A single referral button per product may be placed on a page up to a maximum of 4 buttons, in addition to the ad units, search boxes, and link units specified above. Referral buttons are considered to be ‘Google ads’ for purposes of these program policies.

That would mean 3 ad units, 2 search boxes, 1 link unit, and 4 referral buttons per page.

Yes that's it. 4 referral buttons each representing a different product. That's the definitive aswer.

I used to have one referral button for each page but I figured it's not generating any revenue as noone clicks and install the softwares.
