Hi, Is it hard to make a databsae driven website if you follow tutorials ?

I really need a site but cant find the right person, so I want to try myself.

I need a CMS, shopping cart, and I need it in Php and Mysql.

This is all NEW to me, so please help :)

I have never made anykind of site before. can you please tell me where is a good place to begin. I mean, do I get a ready made template and customize it OR should I make it from scratch?

If I do buy a tempalte, then what kind do I choose? The ones under CMS, or Ecommerce , or What??

I got a lot of books to follow but I dont know what the First step is ?

Thanks so much for all your help

Well, it's a bit complicated. With just a cms and a shopping cart you can opt for jooomla, drupal or wordpress, which are all free. Coding a cms from scratch without having knowledge of php and mysql will be the biggest pain in...well you know.

My suggestion is to use one of the free cms that i mentioned before.

    Regards,
    Nick

is easier to create your own cms then use someone else, classes and functions can be change faster when you wrote the system.

I use both joomla and drupal in creating websites/ecommerce sites for my clients. And I find it very time efficient. Pretty much all you do is download the latest version from joomla.org or drupal.org.

There are plenty of free themes or templates to choose from. All you have to do is install or upload them.

As for the shopping cart, there are 2 carts that are good. For Joomla its virtuemart, and for drupal in ubercart. You can use other ones, but those 2 work best for me.

Using WP is also a good option. It's tons better from starting from scratch. I mean done manually.
