Is International Traffic Still Getting People Banned?

Okay so I've been filtering out international traffic and delivering ADsense to them instead of YPN as per the TOS, but I was curious to know if YPN was still doing mass banning for international traffic as they used to do at the beginning of 2006. It's 2007, and I've yet to read a lot of "news" about mass banning of the sort that exploded in early 2006.

    Any thoughts?

There was a mass email last week warning people to filter them or be banned.. So I would still do it to be safe..

No there wasn't. I never got one, nor did any of my friends.
Anyway though, International traffic is not the biggest concern of theirs, but I would definitely be concerned about it and GEO-TARGET. To some, the YPN account is worth a lot more then what they are making at the moment. You've got to learn to look in the long run when working with PPC Networks.

    I heard so..
Many not be banned like in Google Ban.

They will tell you that you are getting lot of international users.

Friendly Boot, where you can join again. (this is what I gathered)

    Not 100% sure.

    Thanks

I never got an email either, and I have never worried about geo-targetting...I build sites that are based around US subjects...such as the Stock Market...I get a little international traffic, but I still get over 90% US.

Anybody knows why they are banning people for so called international traffic, and what do they mean by int. traffic, is traffic from Canada considered as international?

Yes, Canada is international...anything not in the US, and I would assume (IMO) that it is for more international clicks than US clicks...but I'm not sure any of us really know...

International traffic isn't appreciated because the advertisers target the US audience. It's really a self-reinforcing cycle: because yahoo doesn't target the US, advertisers come to yahoo for the us-specific traffic (which google also delivers, but by geo-targeting), so yahoo has to make sure their ads are shown to mostly US-visitors. Because they don't have enough non-us ads to show > because they don't allow non-us ads & advertisers > they have to make sure their publishers are not showing the ads to non-US as well.

Yes they are still terminating people because of this. They are too behind times to just block the IP addresses....

jackburton, my buddy just got an email this past week, at least they were polite:

Thank you for your participation in the Yahoo! Publisher Network Beta program. As part of our efforts to ensure high-quality traffic for advertisers on the Yahoo! Publisher Network, we continuously monitor publisher attributes such as:

    1. Suspicious click activity.

    2. Advertiser conversion rates.

    3. Overall quality of leads generated on your site.

Unfortunately, due to poor traffic quality, we will be closing your Yahoo! Publisher Network account ID zzzzzzz by EOD Friday, January 12th. In accordance with Sections 6(a) and 6(b) of the Yahoo! Publisher Network terms and conditions, we will not include clicks from non-U.S. users or otherwise invalid clicks in your payment. We have refunded amounts generated from the non-U.S. users and otherwise invalid clicks to our advertisers and will pay any remaining amount owed to you in accord with the Terms and Conditions.

If your earnings balance is in excess of $100.00, you will receive your final payment within 90 days via the payment method you selected.

Please note that we will not make payments for any earned balance less than $100.00. The final payment will be adjusted to exclude any amounts generated in violation of the Yahoo! Publisher Network Terms and Conditions and Program Policies. For example, if we determine that all traffic is non-compliant, you will not receive a payment.

    Regards,
    Eva Mosio
    Account Manager

I think you should take the name of the rep out of the email when you post it like that Reticon and that is the same person I talked to as well.

Observationally, YPN was banning people en masse at the beginning of 2006, but there doesn't seem to be nearly as much since, especially late 2006. I've combed the net, and almost all the posts about YPN banning for international publishers originated early 2006, January to be exact. It seems they are still banning, but not at the high levels of last year. Then again, who knows...

    [warning: speculation ahead]

Well, at some point they will start accepting non-US accounts, if they want to seriously compete with google adwords/adsense that is. So it sounds likely that they would slowly stop banning people merely for having too many non-us clicks. They would probably have to have other things wrong with their accounts.
