I've never bought a .info domain before, but I have the opportunity to get a single keyword .info domain that is perfect for my next niche. However I rarely see .info domains ranking for anything worthwhile. Speaking purely from a SEO perspective, is .info at a disadvantage?
.info's are no different than any other top level domain. I rank for thousands of terms and personally have over 2000 .info domains. I have plenty of first hand knowledge on the subject
http://www.google.lk/search?client=...le+page+rank+checker&meta=&btnG=Google+Search I can't agree with you... Just do a google search for the keyword "google page rank checker"
Aa far as SEO goes, it doesn't matter. When it comes to type in traffic it may have a difference, but otherwise your fine with a .info. I use many of them myself.
It's not a disadvantage! The only reason for not having many .info's around is their age of creation and also the fact that they are meant to be used for informative purposes. Make a good SEO and put a good content and you should have an advantage because of the domain name. Regards
As far as SEO goes, I just assumed there was a disadvantage because you never see a .info competing for competitive keywords. I still can't find one!
No there is no difference, it is just that people have the idea that they may be of less value because they are usually inexpensive to buy which is great for Web spammers and made for Adsense sites.
Hmm All the guys are correct..And I am in agreement with them too that TLD is not a factor when it comes to ranks.. However, It really depends on a type of business/portal you are building up to be used on that .info domain.. Ok consider it this way, You are into Internet Marketing, And most of your clients come thru SERPS and Word of Mouth.. Your aim is obviously to build a brand for yourself.. People tend to remember domain names, generally with .com tld..And another point, many are in a habit of using CTRL+Enter, which automatically adds up a .com thereby making something going wrong.. Not discouraging you, but I have seen this happening many a times..Thats what actually happens in real life..But if you manage to bring up the .info domain on SERPS, you can see huge traffic waves accross your site.. Regards LKS
There's no doubting that .info is confusing for humans but it's never been a problem on our PR5 .info domain which we've been running for about 5 years now.
For advertising offline I think having a .com would be important but if your main source of traffic is from the search engines and link traffic, then there's no real disadvantage.
Sure, thats what I said..>>>..But if you manage to bring up the .info domain on SERPS, you can see huge traffic waves accross your site..<<< Not bringing in Offline marketing, even though, .com has a kinda universal impact..
Hi, Maybe, just maybe, in people's minds .com is the standard TLD for business. Still, there aren't much .info's around so that you can just find them. Why don't you try it, do a proper optimization and a proper promotion and than you will see. At the end of the day, you can always switch to .com or use your .info as a back link for your new .com. Regards
