I'm finding them increasingly annoying. Once you start getting thousands of visitors they constantly take your site down for too much CPU.

They are the largest company. This is the only reason. Beginers tend to go with the largest company. HostGator makes the experience very unpersonalized.

Among the bigger hosts Hostgator is one of the best but there are plenty of great smaller ones.

I don't think Host Gator is all that good. Anything with unlimited is asking for trouble.

I have done a lot of research on web hosting and Hostgator is quite good; read their blog, chat with them. You will find honesty throughout that blog.

JustHost is bad by the way. And big companies are not necessarily better. I found even a small company like vade.ie can be very nice and reliable.

Besides, no web hosting will be perfect!

support is great, and its live 247

and my downtime so far in 3 months is zero. and I was tired of paying people to help me resolve some problems with hosting, and now i save money and time and have support backup all the time,

Okay a few people have mentioned their sites being taken down if they experience a lot of sudden traffic from like a Digg story etc. Are these people full of BS or what? Too much traffic and they take you down? Seriously??? This place should be responsible, it's a serious allegation. I'm considering Host Gator but that thought of getting taken down because my sites are popular seems nuts to me. They do this or not????

HostGator have been taking my site down for "Server Overloading" which is odd because I am not getting traffic spikes or more traffic than before. (just use wordpress software)

This all started since they launched their VPS package. Suddenly they are 'suggesting' that I upgrade to VPS which is $70 more/month.

I'm not happy with HostGator right now.
