Is there a product available that can take an IP address and return an email address? Sounds strange, but here's my logic... I have tons of traffic going to my site and the site statistics give me a bunch of great information (such as date, time, IP address, what pages were viewed, how long they stayed on the page, what browser was used, etc). What I would like to do is get an email addres from the IP address that went to my site, which is provided to me from my site statistics and then follow up with the potential customer using that email address. Is there such a product out there? Is this something that a programmer can write? How complicated is this? Please provide links to whatever software you mention (whether you sell them yourself or not). Any help is greatly appreciated!
If anyone could create it, I'd love to get my hands on it and try it out! I have tens of thousands of targeted traffic that I drive to my site, but it's an outside marketing company that drive the traffic, so I don't have the actual information I want from the people who they sent to my site. I am not interested in contacting everyone who goes to the site, just the ones that I see spend at least a minute on a page. I'd like to get their input on what they didn't find that they were looking for (because obviously, something peeked their interest, but not enough to buy). Do you think though that just looking at the IP would work? I am thinking that many IP's would have the generic Internet providers email address, which may not help. For example, I use Comcast and I am sure there is a Comcast email associated with my IP at home. However, I never use anything but free mailboxes because I can acces them from anywhere there is an internet connection. If I used my Comcast email, I'd have to find Comcast connections. Due to this, if a software program was able to grab the email address assocaited with my IP, it may grab the Comcast one, which would be completely invalid for me. Does that make sense? Maybe there is a way to search for yahoo, gmail, hotmail email addresses assocaited with IP addresses?
If you WHOIS the IP, you will probably get the ISP email and not the user. So basically, it is not possible due to privacy issues. Peace,
You will need the mx records of the domain and compare it with the ip address from where the e-mail came to check whether is legimate mail address.
