My opinion - the domain you are on is only one fairly minor factor in what determines whether you will have traffic. Far more important is whether anyone actually wants to read your content! Having said that, I would prefer to host all my sites on my own hosting for more control. But then the downside of that is that all your domains are on one IP address (if you are using shared hosting) and Google can spot that too. But again, make good content, and none of that will be any problem...

Use a different real domain for each one. Hosting and domains are cheap, and niche sites are better.

Use your own domains and you will have more authority. It also gives you a chance to get some keywords in the domain.

Nothing wrong in spreading the graces a bit. Get two small hosting packages, one at each host. Put up your sites there, each on their own domain. You will be better off in the long run by doing this. If you're serious and are going to put in the hard work anyways, why not do it right and be rewarded for it? Don't let technicalities stop or trouble you, do it once and do it right. Good luck!

Always run your sites on your own domain and hosting. Wordpress, Blogger, Squidoo, and all those sites are known to shut down affiliate sites with no warning and for almost no reason. That's all your hard work down the drain if they shut your site down.

That is a good point. If you do use a free service, keep a backup of all your content in case this does happen.
