Is having a contest based on referrals a good way to promote?

Im having a contest on my site to try to build a user base.. I am giving away a fair ammount of money for the winners.... What do you guys think about that idea? Do you think i have a good chance of success with the contest?

That said, when did you start this contest? So far there's only 2 referrals by one person, from what I can see. I also don't think you should have such a huge list of people - maybe the top 10.

I do believe that a referral contest with such huge monetary compensation is a good idea, though. =)

We only just started it today.... The referral system is counting... took a while to figure out how to get it to only count on email confirmation

 

No matter what you are told, try it anyway. See with your own eyes.

Of course. It's a chance to get something free. But will enough of them stay after it is all done, and, will you get your money back?

when the lateformydate userbase hits the 100,000th user........ That will take too long time to get me intrested, If you open somekind of affiliate program for your dating site I'm sure you get more promoters.
