Without a doubt search engine traffic is important, and Google in particular probably accounts for a lot of traffic for many people. But don't forget there are other traffic sources apart from search engines. Some of these sources are networking sites and can be overlooked in many cases. Is Google your main source of traffic?

Google is a good source of traffic, but not every site can work with that. I know there was a gaming site that did not get traffic or even searches for google, there was nothing people would search for relating to that game, and the only relating one was so much competition that it didn't matter to rank on it. However, it got a lot of traffic through word of mouth.

I don't mind if I don't get traffic coming from social networking sites since most of the time, they don't convert anyway. Most important is google which accounts for almost 80%.
About 70% of my traffic comes from google. Its scary really! It has led me to some great SEO techniques though, and its kind of fun figuring out what works and what doesnt for each of the niches that I work in....
If your site is developed and marketed properly your search engine traffic should be less than 10% of your total traffic. If you rely on SE traffic as a majority of visitors to your site, then once the SE changes its methods your business could be in jeporady. That does not mean its the best possible traffic....it simply means you are limited in your ability to earn more revenues as you seem not to re-invest your money in your business. Many who want to lose weight or stop smoking don't need to read an article to come to the conclusion. What you probably see as traffic is other AMs stealing your ideas,....
For my unadvertised sites, yes Google is No. 1 Outside of that referring traffic is 100% higher than Google. Referring: 42.23% Direct: 37.58% Search: 20.19%
