Is Google Using Old Data in SERPS?

I’ve have asked on other forums with not much luck so I will try here.

It appears to me that while Google is showing fresh cache dates, the data in the SERPS looks old.

On my KW phrases the indexed page count has dropped drastically and fluctuates several times a day.

    Is anyone else seeing this?

Hmm.. I'd say those are two totally separate incidents..
the indexed page count has dropped, because Google is gradually dropping all the supplemental pages they have collected just to outnumber Microsoft's MSN number of indexed pages. This is pretty normal. Lots of indexed pages are being dropped!

And yes, I have previously seen Google suddenly coming up with an old cache version of a certain page. I think it is a glitch in their system. It should be automatically corrected soon.. :)

I’ve also seen this before major updates.

Are you sure that it is not cookies giving you old results, until folks erased their cookies they were still seeing old Google results when searching Yahoo.

Erase your cookies and temp. internet files and see what happens then.

No it’s not that. Cookies get deleted regularly. The pages indexed on my KW phrase are 6,740,000, down from over 9million and results look old.

    Thanks for the input!
