I've done some recent queries in Google Trends on some key words I have a lot of experience with. I've been advertising on these key words in Adwords for the last couple of years and have pretty much been the top ad for each word when searched as an exact match. When I compare my impression data in Adwords (search network only) with the Google Trends data I see a huge difference. Google is saying the search volume has reduced since 2004, but my impression data has increased quite substantially. Also, when I compare the search volume on each phrase it says one phrase is searched way more than the other phrase. My Adwords data is reporting that there is almost no difference in search volume. Why would this be? Is Adwords reporting more impressions than there actually were? Is Google Trends just completely worthless? Thanks for your thoughts. -CO
or is it just picking up your searches lol. Nah I know what you mean, it gets even more confusing when you cross referance the keywords with the overture (yahoo) tool as sometimes they totally contradict each other.
Sometimes I see very different results on trends when I compare them with very strong keywords for which my site comes up in top 3 position.
