Is Google Shooting Themselves in the Foot With Their Updates?

Many people at Google feel the updates of Panda and Penguin have been a huge success however, with the new rankings giving larger sites like Amazon, Walmart, Target, Sears, Etc. I feel they are shooting themselves in the foot. There was an article that was published that said Google was more concerned with the likes of Amazon because people are bypassing Google when searching for products and going directly to Amazon to do their searches for products they want to buy. It seems like Google, by giving them the higher rankings, is causing their competition to take more of their market share. By this happening Google loses revenue from ads and also loses market share of the searches being done. I would like to know how you feel about this. Is Google Causing their own demise?

I'm a little worried that they are killing SEO, but perhaps long-term it may not be the case. We have no choice but to wait and see. Good thoughts though.

The user is quite very unpredictable, it would be wise for google to focus on their search algorithm to provide equal and relative results and for big companies and for small and medium businesses.

I tend to believe since Google is in business to make money off their ads that they will be changing their algo in the near future to promote more clicks on their ads. What they are doing now is sending customers to their competitors and losing that revenue. I think it's only a matter of time until they come out with lower than expected earnings and they do something to try and change that. I know I would be advertising my largest competitors on my site.

Bing is giving phenomenal results lately. As for couple month back it was giving results more like yahoo results and they were joined somehow. But, you will see the results more like Google results now. As for Google, it is tending to become more like Yahoo and giving the huge companies better rankings. What the outcome would be?
Bing will be the new Google
Google will be the new Yahoo
Yahoo, well it is Yahoo, we never expected anything from them:)
As for the Google Adsense, media.net may able to compete with Google Adsense money maker. Yahoo, Bing and Media.net are joined together and they are using the media.net to compete with Adsense for those of you who didn't know.

I agre with you on the Bing results, they seem to be getting better and better. I've know I've switched my home pages to Bing and I would be curious to see the market share numbers in the near future as compared to what it used to be pre Panda/Penguin updates.

Google feels panda, penguin, exact match domain and top heavy algo changes have been successful because it makes them more money. It's not because the results are any more relevant. In fact, one could argue that many search results return low quality listings with a lack of diversity. Plus some organizations are taking notice at the changes and are pushing government agencies to intervene.
