Meta keywords is not important for Google but still few search engines are giving weight to meta keywords tag. It is advisable to use unique meta keyword tag for each page. One more thing, if you dont want your competitor to know your targeted keywords per page, better you choose your keyword that can't reflect the competition.

I disagree, Google do emphasis of keywords and its till a good say to onpage optimise your site.

I think the question was specifically about meta keywords, not onpage optimisation. Meta keywords mean little to Google nowadays.

Often search engines will use your title tags as the linked text for your site with either the whole or part of the description underneath it on the results page.

A well written title tag and description can entice someone to click on your link. How many times have you searched for something and clicked on a result based on the linked text of description.

So though it may seems that Google doesn't pay too much attention meta tags. Some Search Engines such as Yahoo and MSN still use meta tags as part of the determining factors for ranking a site.

Although the amount of importance may be small, when it comes to search engine optimization every little bit helps.

Google ignores meta keywords and meta description elements in their ranking algorithm. In fact, almost every search engine on the planet does. That element in the HTML doc spec has probably been abused by spammers and blackhat SEOs more than all other HTML elements combined, so there's no doubt about the reason "why" it's ignored.

    Hello,

Google, and since 2003, started to ignore Meta keywords as they became irrelevant to it. People are abusing it and it doesn't tell anything about the real value of the page.

What you should consider is an XML site map that you create for your site and submit to Google via its Webmaster tools.

    To your success!

No, google doesn't give much importance to meta keywords. If it would have then getting good rank at google results would be easier.

As far as I know, Google give low priority to Meta Tags now, mostly in Meta Keywords but it is still useful using metas to your site optimization.

Google is not giving much important to meta keywords, it gives important to meta description, so it is good to use two or three keyword in meta description.
