Is Google PR still important?

    Hi

Before the last update, my website had a Page Rank of PR3 and like many of my friends here, I was also penalized for selling links.
However, there was no effect on my SERP infact my SERPs kept on getting better and my site now ranks in the first 15 of a 674million search term beating many big websites.
What it seems to me know that Google is still giving my website the same importance rather more as it did before the PR blackout.
If Google PR is no more important than what will happen to all this PR business going over here. What about directory submissions that have been earning so much on their PR? Are directories without PR still important as a SEO tool?

Please share your views.......I would like to hear what do you think.

I guess no one can really predict what's going to happen next regarding PR.
Maybe only the displayed PR has been modified whereas your real PR has not been changed. (what I suppose, since the SERP of penalised site has not been modified)
Google wanted to penalised sites selling links, with their PR down, they will sell less links or won't at all or at least will have more troubles selling them.

If you want to be better ranked, you still need good links. That won't change.

The main question is: What will google do next to penalise sites which keep selling links ?
Maybe next time the real PR will be affected and at that point the SERPs will drop ...

My position would be to keep getting good links (I personnally avoid directories or at least 99% of them, I only seek very specialised ones) and stop selling links (since you were selling some).

The PR is not such a big deal, just keep a watch on your positions for your main request. That's the only thing that matters in the end.

    HTH

Agreed - unfortunately most people looking at individual sites will flip that around

Whether or not PR is important has been debated on this forum ad nauseam.

Good backlinks are important. PR is a result, an effect, of good backlinks. So the proper strategy is to continue securing good backlinks and just be content to let the PR be what it will be.

Right, good backlinks is important in our site. So if we can see a good PR meaning we got some good backlinks and PR is still important not only for those who sell links but for us too.

Whatever it is, I think it doesn't matter.
I want high traffic, not PR.

Seems here many people agrees that PR has lost its power as it had some time back. But yeah, acquiring good backlinks is sure an important SEO technique and guaranteed way for higher SERPs

So, PR is generally made to make a profit out of it? is that the main purpose of PR to the site owner?

Even links brokers are now giving more importance to serps and ranking then before.
    Pr has lost its charm
