Is Google Page Rank "officially" dead?

    Hello everyone!

I've started my blog last July and my traffic got more than doubled this month. My Alexa also got improved today but only Google PR is not moving. Is it true that Google PR is "officially" dead in the IM and SEO world?

What does traffic have to do with PR? How many backlinks do you have and are they relevant and quality backlinks?

The last time I checked this week, my backlinks are over 2,900 and they are from relevant blogs and websites.

Only unofficially. It will be officially dead when toolbar PR disappears and the google blog makes an announcement.

What kind of toolbar? I use Seoquake to determine PR, Alexa, backlinks, etc.

I meant the official Google Toolbar. But when Google switch it off, PR will disappear from all Toolbars as they all just rely on the API.

If the Google tool bar is not working for you you can try out the search status which will provide you the exact PR as well as the Alexa ranking of the website

I don't think it is dead. I just don't think the amount of traffic is too significant to PR.

Oh really? We're the same thing man. I checked on other PR checker sites and my blog's PR is still zero. :(

I agree with the rest, PR has really nothing to do with traffic and toolbar PR is not an accurate determinant of anything anymore really.

I think most of the time it means nothing - that being said, when I redirected my website to a new domain name by PR went down from 5 to 4, along with my rankings.

Seems like Google is right in the middle of switching things up again. Things that used to work for PR don't seem to anymore. Gotta keep trying until we figure out the new rules for sure.

Google Page Rank may not be dead literally. It just does not have that much significance anymore when it comes to site traffic, which is more valuable. Of course, the way Google is going with its algorithm changes, we always have to be on the lookout on what happens next. Who knows, PR might be resurrected again sometime.

I'm waiting for their new rules (if possible) so that I can see my Page Rank go up for the first time. :)

Google Pagerank hasn't updated since very long now. If Google is in the process of changing things for good, then surely we'll have an improved PR norms and better quality algorithm for Pagerank.

For me, there are actually 2 sides of the coin for this topic. First off, Google Page Rank will always be something useful for many internet users especially those who know how to do business with their page rank. On the other side of the coin, I think (just my opinion) Google Page Rank is already dead in terms of conversion. This is simply because traffic is no longer all about Google trust (a.k.a. page rank) it is all about converting those traffic into R.O.I. or earnings.

We all know that there are sites that have high traffic but their conversion rates are way low from expectancy so there really is a catch to this. Even if you don't have a page rank at all, it does not necessarily mean that your site doesn't earn any.

As Google itself has reported that Page Rank is just one out of 200 parameters that influence search engine rankings, I think it is of no use.

Google PR is basically pointless and it hasn't been updated in a long time. There should either be an update soon or an announcement that it is no longer used.
