Is Google on Crack?

I noticed a very dumb change in Google's algo. For whatever reason, Google has decided to rank Edu sites for non relevant keyphrases. I'm noticing a lot of financial keyphrases that are filled with Edu homepages getting top rankings. It just doesn't make any sense; however, I guess Google is making some tweaks to their algo.

The algo is constantly changing, so small things like that happen, I'm sure it will be back to normal soon.

IMO I don't think edu sites get any sort of a SEO boost unless it's for an extremely uncompetitive SERP. I think their authority system is based on how many people link to you... otherwise the blackhat guys will get pages on EDU domains (e.g. from students selling their webspace, hacking into blogs, etc.) and rank high anyways.

It would also affect the quality of their SERPs.

edu sites have been 'spammed' heavily for some time now. It could juts be a major push by the second rank (i.e. not vi4gra, pharma) - financials, or it could be an algo tweak that has epic fail written all over it.
