Is google on a banning spree? Are they taking over the internet... MONOPOLIZING?!

We all know Google, the friendly search engine that's always there for you... even when you are bored as heck and searching for "asdfasdfasdf"... Well ever since Google banned me I got bored and Googled "Google sucks" and I came across some very interesting websites... for example this one http://www.googlesux.com/ and many others. Most of the Google sucks websites talk about Google not letting people search for certain things, like Google sucks, or ***** Google it's weird that during my searches I didn't see a "googlesucks.com" or a "googlesucks.net" and when you search for those you get the "problem loading page" so is Google trying to stop people from searching for those terms? Or did they buy those domains to stop others from using the domains against Google?

I started searching for more stuff about Google taking over the internet and I found that Google is also censoring in China, could China be the first country to use this method with Google? will other countries agree to do so as well? If they do what are people gonna do with their websites. And what are we going to do if the government signs a contract with Google to censorship? There is nothing stopping this giant search engine...

After more research I found that they banned or at least try not to get John Chow into their first page of searches... which is weird as he has the domain http://www.johnchow.com which gets many hits per day. Apparently John was selling back links and Google did not like this, john's response was to say that he does not completely depend on Google for his incoming traffic, and that if he did his website would be dead right now. So looking at John's situation what can people that were banned by Google do? Go to yahoo and hope that their company won't die?

What do you guys think about Goliath Google?

UPDATE: I just looked at the googlesucks.com WHOIS and this is what I found:

it's all old news, you just haven't been paying attention (I say this in the least argumentative/offensive way to you).

Google is your friend on the surface only. Remember, it is more of a corporate giant than any other company out there, period.
It bans various political speech.. IN AMERICA. (lots of references to this online) It controls what you say and put onto YOUR websites and WHO you link too.

    Yes, Google is evil.
Google is also our bread & butter.

Money is NOT the root of all evil; the Love of Money is.

Evil is a hard term to define..I think it's one of those user specific words... but to me, any company that attempts to control what I (or another person) says is evil.

Internet is by far the only medium where real journalism exists and google is slowly putting a stranglehold on it. China's ruthless dictatorship is a perfect example, though justification of "we gots to do business there" may satisfy some, justification to censor 1 billion people reduced to literal slavery isn't cutting it.

TV, Newspapers, radio - all swallowed n owned by monopolies. Take a look at News Corp(FOX news) - its the end of journalism.

The greatest concern is - will Google and other SEs monopolize internet to extent of successfully shutting down investigative journalism like with the rest..?

I'm not a conspiracy theorist lol. I'm just posting facts and Google could be asked to sign a contract with the government, like to censor warez, warez sites, porn, etc.

    posting facts?
Come on. Ive just googled google sux, and f**k google and stuff, and there is no problem for that.
Blaming google for the problems wit freedom of speech in China is just a weird argument. Of course, they are not helping it, but they are just a consequence of it.
Of could fight, it, but they do not. They are not the biggest freedom fighters, but they are not the evil.
And believing that all the searchers will stop the freedom on the internet? Why? Even google, msn and yahoo stop indexing all the websites, that have the word "Bush sux" on their text, that does not mean, that the websites will not be accessed by people. There are other ways, and a lot of people use it.

I never liked Google's method of interfering in other people's freedom......

That is the bad quality in them, I would say.

The JohnChow situtation is very unique. It is essentially a battle between him and Google, and they know it.
It's fully in their domain to restrict the ranking of a site they deem hostile to their services.

For the most part, they are fair in their ranking decisions.
I think that they need improvement on updating rankings and the like, but the internet is a very big place.

I think that Google is not good for your internet security either. Because if you are running the newest Google Toolbar, they record all your activation in internet and the pass them to others. That is the reason I never trust any toolbar on top of my internet browsers.

Being smart isn't evil... but spying and taking your privacy isn't good at all.

Giving extra income is a good idea... but taking advantage because you're in the position isn't good at all.

Google is Smart and they give extra income.

This whole thread is nonsense. Google is not restricting anyone's freedom. They have absolutely no control over what you put on your site or who you link to. That's entirely up to you.

You're right, but what good is a site that doesn't show on search engines? Of course there are other ways, but SEs wield immense traffic power, as for many - its a primary navigation tool on the internet.

Though putting links isnt restricted here, in China bloggers and journalists critical of Chinese police state get imprisoned or simply killed. Baidu and Google filter anything that is critical(in case someone goes under radar is able to post anything) of the government, so its a closed loop. Government tracks anyone critical of it, in case they do get through, search engines make sure it's never found by masses.

Though Google is simply following the regulations imposed by Chinese government, the motto do-no-evil turns into: help-evil-if-it-makes-money

So the dark elements are well in its place. The simple fact of helping fascist regime is good enough an argument for me. Money spins the world, regardless of the cost.
