Is Google OFFICIALLY going to be offering SEO consulting?

Yesterday I read a number of articles suggesting that Google is going to be offering SEO consulting (for 25k per month).

Does anyone have this from a legitimate source? All the articles I read yesterday didn't point to any sort of conclusive or credible source from Google.

Thanks in advance for any info on this!

Here is the article in which I first read about this:

Also- would love to have any thoughts on what this means for the rest of us. My personal view is that at that price it won't mean much... but it seems a bit anti-competitive to me.

A lot of news about Google and search engine optimization business has spread that fast. However, no single of them are officially statement from Google directly. I will not trust this until the official one from Google released.

Imo this is bullshit 25$k/month for SEO Consulting ? Just for consulting and no actual Link Building ? And it would be an unfair advantage to be able to hire the company(Google) on whos search you want to rank on...

Why pay Google $25k per month? I will happily consult for you for only $24k month.
just kidding, I don't believe the news either. I think this has to be some kind of joke but let's see what happens

Just in case you were all still curious- the air has been cleared:
    http://www.verticalmeasures.com/link-bait/an-april-fools-joke-27-days-later-2010/

And @mattcutts said something about it on Twitter as well.

Basically, someone wrote the article as an April Fools joke and then it was copied 27 days later because someone at NewsWire didn't realise that it was a joke out of context.

Glad to see it wasn't for real- would have been outrageous.

They'd be burned so bad by antitrust lawsuits all over the place that I'm surprised that rumour got this far.

Besides, Google doesn't NEED to go into consulting. They make way more money doing what they do already.

I just answered this on another thread... but here it is again.

Matt Cutts responded to the rumor of a Google SEO company with this tweet...

The link is to an article which explains how everything got started - April Fools Joke 27 Days Later.

    rumors dont seem to stop!

IF google was to offer SEO services, that would be conflict of interest and they could play real evil by setting their algorithm in such a way that only google SEO clients would rank high. and they would get sued a lot as well. even if they played fair and square, it would be pretty much endorsing SEO and would go against google principle. how can they promote positive user experience and organic search results yet be in the SEO business?
