Is Google losing market share?

    I realize that during the course of the recent Google update that their stock price has apparently gone up but I have noticed traffic to my website network has increased by as much as 30%+ from MSN and about 20% from Yahoo! since the Google update debackle began.

    Why would this be unless more users are going to MSN and Yahoo! for their searches..?

    Anyone else notciing an increase in their MSN and/or Yahoo! referrals and if so any opinions on the reason for this..?

    Has your traffic from MSN/Yahoo increased or has the percentage increased from those refering engines corresponding with a significant drop in google?

    I've always seen this to be the case-- drop in Google, and gain in yahoo and msn-- in total count of referrals, not just %. Almost to the point that in the past I thought Yahoo and/or msn had a "not high in google" filter that they used to rank sites higher... ;-)

    I have also seen a significant increase in traffic from MSN and Yahoo during this update (over 50%) with no change in rankings. They may really be shooting themselves in the foot with these types of updates.

    As bad as things are now I am getting good vibes about Jagger3 (the clean up phase). Surely the SERPS cannot stay as they are now. Friday can't come quick enough.

    I tend to agree. At least some of us should see some recovery, I'd hope. I doubt that NONE of my sites will recover-- they all used a variation of different white hat SEO tactics, other than some basic on-page SEO stuff...

    Msn is getting better and better everyday and their share is going high..Google only results show older expired pages while MSN shows fresh stuff..now who wants to buy expired food instead of fresh? but they still have a good name and reputation...I love MSN.

    I really wonder if this unexpected increase in MSN Yahoo! traffic is a result of folks just moving from Google to these SE's or if MSN Yahoo! have a filter as you mention to take advantage of the Google irrelevancy factor during these updates..?

    If this is the case as I posted originally this could have a lasting impact on Google market share the longer the relevancy issues linger in their SERPs.

    I can tell you that my appreciation for MSN and Yahoo! have dynamically increased with each passing day of traffic loses from Google. I'm seeing traffic reports where folks are in the 100 - 300+ range of results to find my site. I have always greatly respected Google but in the past 3-weeks MSN and Yahoo! have been a saving grace for me...

    I agree is getting better and better every day because they really love fresh quality content... which people like...

    unlike google your fresh content when it get position in serps it's old content already because it take 3 to 6 months before a site get out from their sandbox.

    I agree - I think G has become too big for their own good. Their only profit center is search ads.

    Word travels fast - and as soon as your average user hears that MSN or Yahoo is better than G then that will be the end of G.

    It all starts with the SEO community, if we start thalking about G SERP results being bad the average user will get that info shortly after.

    I'm up early this morning and checking the DP tracker, I've noticed the first real break in Google SERPs to the upward side. About a dozen of my top KeyWords with the +9,999 result. Encouraging but also notice my traffic numbers from MSN & Yahoo! are at the highest traffic generation ever... Be nice if the end result of this 3-4 week beating is all 3 SE's generating all time high traffic stats.
    I guess it could happen...?

    I still have to wonder how many folks were just worn down with their poor search results, moved on to MSN or Yahoo! and wont be back to ride the Google train anytime soon...

    I hate to say this but I hope Google does in fact loose market share. They have proven to not be the most consistent with their SERPs. I look forward to one day where traffic can somewhat equally come from many diffrent engines, so when one of these companies decides to do some overly long dumb "update" all the people who depend on that traffic are not ruined.

    Also imagine if you were some novice user and you saw junk results for over a month on your SE of choice. Being a novice you dont know about updates or anything. I think you would probably get tired of going ten pages in to find what you want and would switch. Would you switch back? I dont know, but certianlly not if it happens every 6-9 months like google does.

    All corperations = evil;
    Google = corperation;

    Jagger3 to start (according to GoogleGuy and Matt Cutt's anyhow). But my guess now is that they won't start it until they have worked through all of the spam reports they received.

    Oh man... I hope that doesnt take em another 4 weeks..!

    I think quite a few folks would support this projection...

    Does anybody know if there is any kind of statistical report on actual market share of the Search Engines available..?

    I think this survey is by hitwise.com. The link:
    http://www.clickz.com/stats/sectors/search_tools/article.php/3528456

    This Market Share survey goes back to July of this year and basically ranks the top 3 SE's as follows:

    Google: 39.34%
    Yahoo: 18.16%
    MSN: 15.32%

    Be interesed to see a survey taken in December to see if the G update had any effect on this % spread. I would say it did...

    I agree... The SEO community made Google. IMO MSN will have a larger share of the search engine market within the next year... Bill Gates is hungry, and that’s not good for google. Google's results are geting worse with each passing day.

    I mentioned in another thread that I had a keyword I have been wishing would rank even in the top 200 since Feb 05'. This morning it came in at 44. I'm noticing a slow but definate change in Google's SERPs and my KW rankings. It's slow but moving in a green direction. This thing might work out down the line for all of us...
