Well, obviously Google is in love with itself, I would be too. I rarely start topics on DP mostly out of intimidation, but this has got me curious. My newest site has 6 articles as well as some very simple stock quotes that simply take yahoo finance's info. Yahoo and msn have plenty of my pages indexed. Google, not surprisingly, has less. However, the 3rd page and first article that comes up when I search "site:mysite.com" is the article about Google and the only stock quote page indexed is the GOOG one. Has anyone else noticed that pages about google rank higher? I think the algo got tweaked to help build the brand. I'm thinking about putting links to MSFT and YHOO quotes as well as writing articles about the two to see if they are unusually low as well as find another way to mention Google on one of my other sites to see if the page ranks better.
yeh, i'ld have to agree its part of self promotion n user awareness, we'ld probably do the same thing if we had the powers
Google doesn't show any BLs to my articles, MSN and Yahoo show the google article doesn't have an advantage. The length of the text compared to the other articles is average for the Google article. The only advantage I could find was url length. The other articles have a url with two dashes "/some-articles-url" and the google has just one "/some-article". -------------- MSN - Yahoo article 1 ----- 2 BLs - 42BLs G article ----- 2 BLs - 2 BLs article 3 ----- 3 BLs - 45 BLs article 4 ----- 2 BLs - 2 BLs article 5 ----- 2 BLs - 2 BLs article 6 ----- 2 BLs - 2 BLs It could be possible that more people with Google toolbar bookmarked the Google article too. Also all of my stock quote pages display recent blog posts about the stock. Since Google is talked about so much it is possible that that page looks like it changes its content more often or it is updated so often that Google couldn't catch it as duplicate content. Overall I am very confident that Google ranks pages that mention the company higher. I'll let you guys know if I can get around to testing this further and have significant results.
This can explain why the page got indexed. This is non sense. you said you have a page mentioning google that was indexed and then concluded google ranks such pages higher GGuys are not stupid. They won't risk to lose the relevency of their search algo just to do some self promotion.
yeah, i too have a couple of articles on G and they still pop up quite regularly in their results even though the site is quite heavily sandboxed. And no, there arent any backlinks to these articles.
