I don't think so, they are not gonna kill it, although actively trying to do so in order to earn more - not from providing better natural (or manipulated) search results, but from adwords! Surely, they must keep a look at the stock pricing of their own company :)

Their so called better user experience is **********+

    REALLY??????????????? Are you really sure?
Do you want to say that internet and search engines/search results started with google and will finish with them and those "fast & inaccurate", actually ridiculous results?

This is IM/SEO forum as you might know, most of us around here do their best (or what they can) to rank sites - be it own or clients' ones, across the web.... plus many, many more information within this sphere

I do not see Google's actions as killing SEO. They are making things better. I am tired of sites buying poor quality links and spamming the web to rank. By cracking down on this they not only remove the spam, but they ensure the better quality sites will rank higher.

    VERY good point!
Negative SEO became a serious niche nowadays. Although not many can afford enough budget for it, especially for a lot of competitors everyone should be careful.

I read some article (though that is not SEO at all, but SEM) today about a fake facebook page of a very famous company, not sure what was the company, but some guys managed to do a lot of damage there....

Google is not killing SEO, further they are improving SEO. If a site got hit at this time, in the next coming update definitely it will consider that site. But its difficult and very hard to face when suddenly the keywords position drops.

Agree. And google is focusing more on On-Page SEO now with their latest Hummingbird updates. SEO is getting harder but better.

They thing is, i still see low quality sites with no content rank high on google. Not sure why. Probably no competitions.

Nope.google is not going any way to kill seo.
Google only want to explain people that we should use only white hat techniques for our website promotion. If you apply link building technique with quality content then your website ranking will definitely improve.

Yes they want to kill SEO and are doing it. Google wants to make listings paid.

Like all publicly traded companies they want more profit and more and more results are paid listings.

They are killing the old methods of SEO, yes. What is taking place here is what we once thought of as Search Engine Optimization is becoming less relevant (with exception to the tweaks you should be making onpage) and Internet Marketing is coming of age. Marketing your site and thus achieving higher rankings is looking more like offline marketing; a large part of it is "who you know" and who talks about you. That is why so many courses/books out there emphasis finding your community/niche leaders - they are the authorities that can give you instant exposure.

Before, anybody could build a website and pay someone to spam links to it; that was "seo". Now, you actually need to be a marketer and devise marketing strategies for building and retaining an audience. I actually prefer it this way, even though my own sites did take a bearing with Penguin2.1. It is much more involved and I certainly think it puts real SEO out of reach for the little guy and small business. They will be the ones driven to using AdWords or learning how to creatively market their company.

They've tried, and all that's happened was making SEO smarter.

When they unleashed updates, it was mainly spam sites and innocent sites that got hurt. It did nothing to stop keyword targeting or link building.

Until they change the way search is done, SEO will continue.

It's actually a fun game. They try to stop SEO, and in doing so, are constantly updating their systems. SEO helps search engines evolve into the next stage: semantic search. THAT will be interesting SEO.

Certainly Google has come to be a dominant player, but the web is full of different "bubbles" of people, and you just need to find your way to a group of people that you can help or receive help. Sometimes bubbles burst and there are new opportunities. Right now, you probably will have more chance of success by starting with a small niche and providing something useful.
